Homecoming Time!
By Gina Anderson

It seems like school just started, but ready or not, it’s time for the current students to enjoy Homecoming and the alumni to meet up with classmates, to remember their time as students and to reminisce about their homecoming celebrations.
This current group of Tigers won’t remember two of my favorites, which were the Snake Dance and the bonfire. The Snake Dance got “dangerous” and the bonfire had no where to go that was far enough away from the new all-weather track. But those have been replaced by lots of fun activities.
This year’s schedule is as follows:
Sunday, Sept. 22
- Kickball — HS only — 6 p.m. at FB Field
Monday, Sept. 23
- USA Day — dress up
- JH VB @ Home v. HTC — 4:30 p.m.
- JH FB @ Home — v. W-MU — 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 24
- Adam Sandler Day/Anything but a Backpack Day — dress up
- JH & HS XC @ Mt. Pleasant — 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 25
- Neon Day — dress up
- Boom Night activities — parade line up at 6 p.m. — Parade start — 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 26
- Beach Day — dress up
- JH FB @ Wapello — 5 p.m.
- Varsity VB Conference Tournament @ TBA — 5 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 27
- School Spirit Day/Black & Gold — dress up
- Varsity Football VS. HLV @ NLHS Tiger Stadium — 7 p.m.
- Dance to follow after the game
Saturday, Sept. 28
- Varsity Volleyball Conference Tournament final vs. Multiple Schools @ SCC — 5 p.m.
When doing the Looking Back column, I came across this column that is now 50 years old. It still sums up Homecoming. It’s a great time to celebrate the school and the kids and make memories that last a lifetime! Go Tigers!!!
Homecoming is…
- a great experience, especially when you’re participating.
- togetherness — a chance for all your classmates to really get close with the sharing of ideas.
- a lot of extra work for the journalism class.
- having to wear a dress to the dance when you could be more comfortable in jeans.
- washing your car for the dance.
- confusion in the classes.
- asking your favorite girl out.
- finding that you lost your new coat and it was last seen on top of the bonfire.
- happiness, togetherness, and friendliness which no one can take away.
- a lot more work than anyone realizes.
- scraping up the money to buy flowers, etc.
- your mother taking gobs of pictures while you’re all dressed up.
- sleeping till noon Saturday after the dance.
- getting to see the retiring queen just once more and seeing the new queen for the first time.
- meeting the alumni.
- September 27.
