A mix of winter weather proved hostile to travel in Southeast Iowa over the weekend. A massive ice storm passed through the region Saturday night leaving thousands without power and roads slick with ice, and sidewalks littered with knocked out tree limbs. The bitter cold stuck around through Sunday, gradually replaced by a thick fog that lowered visibility on roads.

Both hazards gradually faded as the work week began, with road crews hard at work and temperatures gradually ticking up, but the return to normal brought little comfort for those who had to cancel big plans, like the New London Holiday Stroll, amid the storm.
