2024 Summer Reading and Activities begin at Nugen Library. This year’s Summer Reading Program “Walk the Walk” officially began Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Sign up continues. Stop in anytime to sign up and get started.
Last Day of School Taco Party at Nugen Library May 31
From 11 a.m. + 1 p.m., the annual taco party celebrating the end of school will be held at the Public Library. New London students come enjoy the party, find out all the neat things happening at the library this summer and plan a great summer schedule.
Lincoln-Harlan House announces Wednesday and Saturday hours
Explore the Historic Harlan-Lincoln House at 101 W. Broad Street in Mt. Pleasant. The museum features memorabilia featuring Sen. James Harlan & President Abraham Lincoln. The Harlan-Lincoln House is open Saturdays and Wednesdays 2 p.m. — 4 p.m.
Big Hollow Youth Jamboree Saturday, June 1
Join fun outdoor activities by attending the Outdoor Youth Jamboree is from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Big Hollow Recreation Area. Outdoor Youth Jamboree is back for another day of free family fun. The Outdoor Youth Jamboree is a collaborative effort among conservation organizations from the area to get more kids outside experiencing outdoor pursuits that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to try Lunch is free for participants. Stride into Summer June 2 at East Lake Park
Stride into Summer Family Walk at East Lake Park in Mount Pleasant! This is a free event and will start by the tennis courts. Visit fun, family friendly activity stations as you walk a loop through the park. A wagon or stroller is recommended. This will take place from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Examples of activities include a fingerprint/kid’s ID kit from Sheriff’s Office, summer safety info, kids games, giveaways, healthy snack, and even a firetruck and ambulance! Preserve Iowa Summit June 6-8
The Preserve Iowa Summit is the state’s premier conference for professionals and volunteers involved in historic preservation. Through expert presentations, workshops and tours, participants will learn new ways to preserve Iowa’s past for the future. The 2024 summit will take place in Mount Pleasant. Registration will close June 3. Mount Pleasant’s vibrant downtown square highlights the community’s strong preservation ethic with the adaptive uses of many historic properties.

It’s the second annual “Cops and Bobbers Fishing Derby,” sponsored by the Burlington/West Burlington Optimist Club and the Burlington Police Department! The Derby is from 9 — 11 a.m. June 8 at Starker Lake in Crapo Park, 2800 Madison Avenue, Burlington, Iowa.
