Flag Day June 14
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution stated, "That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."
June 15 Free family float along the back waters of the Mississippi
Relax in the sun during the free family float at 10 a.m. at the Heron Bend Conservation Area located at 2652 Highway 61 in Montrose! All equipment including life jackets, canoes, and kayaks will be provided, and naturalists will be monitoring the event. Preregistration is required and can be completed by calling 319-463-7673 or emailing conservation@leecounty.org.
New London Library hosts Cardboard Construction June 18
Tuesday June e Iowa State University Extension and Outreach returns to New London. Cardboard Construction helps students learn how to think and create like an engineer. A cardboard town designed and built by students. This fun course introduces students to architecture as well. Registration is required by the 4-H summer camp activity. Call the library at 319-367-7704 and reserve a place for this interesting activity.
Swedesburg celebrates Midsommer June 21 at 6 p.m.
Step into the past with this traditional summer holiday observance. It’s a Midsummer Celebration at the Swedesburg Parish Hall, 201 Academy in Swedesburg starting at 6:30 p.m.! Join in a processional and dance around the Maypole! Listen to Swedish music by The Norwegian Bachelor Farmers and enjoy an ice cream social!
Friends of Geode YAK Attack June 22
Bring your family to Geode State Park. At the beach area there will be children’s games and kayak launching. Kayak registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Volunteers are available to help but more are needed. Fun is in store for all ages. The prize drawings begin at 3 p.m.
Dover Sunday program on June 23 1:30 — 3 p.m.
At 1:30 p.m. on Sunday June 23, Annette Hanenberger will present a program at Dover Museum, 213 Main Street, New London. She will be sharing her grandfather’s experiences in the Great War (WWI). First had accounts are very important history lessons.
