Henry County Heritage Trust Saturday July 20
Find your Civil War ancestors at the Henry County Heritage Trust’s “Researching Your Civil War Roots” at 2 p.m. at the Henry County Heritage Center Museum. Ray Wilson, member of the Southeast Iowa Civil War Roundtable group, will share his helpful hints and demonstrate his methods for finding your Civil War ancestors. Free Handouts!

Dover Historical Society Sunday July 21
Jean and Jim Shelledy will present D. Kenneth Shelledy WWII Memories of the Pacific: Letters To and From Home. Joan and Jim Shelledy will share scrapbooks, pictures and memories of Kenneth’s experiences in World War II. 1:30 p.m. at the Dover Museum, 213 W Main, New London.
Douds Historical Preservation Association, Inc. July 21
Douds, Iowa is hosting a 50th anniversary open house celebration at all four of their historic museums on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 1 — 4 p.m. Each location will be awarding a $50 cash prize for those registering at each location with a possibility of winning $200 when visiting and registering in at all four sites that day. Refreshments, including pie and ice cream, will be served at Yates Park next to the Douds Depot Museum during the open house hours. Only the Depot and Valley School locations will have modern restrooms available.
Henry County Conservation Nature Center Tuesday July 23
6 — 7:30 p.m. Rocks of Iowa What is in a name? Would a rock by any name feel as smooth? Explore silicates, sandstones, and shales in this hands-on program led by our local rock expert. Discover how Iowa’s rocks came to be in our fields, streams, and parking lots. All participants get a souvenir stone. Grand viewing of new Rocks of Iowa display.
New London Summer Fun Day July 27
The 2nd annual SUMMER FUN DAY in New London, Iowa, today kicks off with a parade at 11 a.m. Following features are noon. Park Lunch, Noon — 2 p.m. Car Show, Free Games all afternoon, 4 p.m. Bag Tournament. A Street Dance at 8 p.m. ends the festivities.
A 5-Day Vacation Bible School will meet in Danville, Iowa, July 29-August 2
Children ages 5-12 are invited to the Danville Community Building for vacation Bible school presented by 5 -Day Club. 5-Day Club is a ministry offered by the Child Evangelism Foundation. Children meet from 10 — 11:30 a.m. Preregistration is not necessary. Participation is free. Parents are welcome to attend.
