Aug. 23 First Day of School
A regular school day is planned. Meet the Players begins at 5 p.m. in the Lorber Gymnasium. Cross-country Introductions will be followed by Volleyball Introductions and scrimmage. At 5:15 p.m., the Parking Lot Silent Bids open at the football field. Cheerleading Introductions begin at 6:20 p.m. followed by Football Instructions and scrimmage vs Wapello. 6:55 Parking Lot Silent bids close. Auction winners are announced at 7 p.m. Don’t miss this important beginning of the school year.
Aug. 23 Dover Historical Society Monthly Meeting
1:30 p.m. The monthly meeting of the Dover Historical Society will be held Tuesday, at the museum. All members are welcome.
Aug. 24 PEO Fall Mum Sale Fundraiser
8:30 a.m. until noon or as long as supplies last, the annual Fall Mum Sale fundraiser for the PEO Chapter EV, New London will be held in the Elliott Chapel parking lot. This sale helps provide fund for scholarships and grants furthering education for young women.
Aug. 24 and 25 New London Lions Red Barn Breakfast Fundraiser
7 — 11 a.m. at the Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge, 206 N Main St, the New London Lions will provide a hearty breakfast of Biscuits & gravy, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage Patty, Hash brown Patty and a beverage for just $12. The proceeds from this fundraiser help the Lions provide many community services. Help this small but mighty group continue their work.
Aug. 24 Native American Artifacts
2 p.m. Denny White will display a portion of his extensive collection of Native American Artifacts. Denny annually organizes the Hawkeye State Archaeological Society’s artifact show. He will also share stories about the Native American culture and their relationship to the artifacts left behind. The presentation will be held at the Henry County Heritage Center Museum — 403 West Madison Street — Mount Pleasant.
Aug. 28 through Sept. 2 Old Threshers
Old Threshers officially begins Aug. 29 but Wednesday night, the Horse Pull is held. Four fun packed days follow. This annual Southeast Iowa event is a great time to celebrate the past and plan for the future.
