Elk’s Veterans Leather Program
Deer hunters — Please donate your hides for this important program. Call Rich Metcalf at 641-919 for more information. Henry County Conservation has added a drop off spot at the Oakland Mills site. There is a barrel located in front of the maintenance shop!
Dec. 20 — New London School District
2 p.m. School is dismissed for the Holidays. Classes will resume Jan. 6.
Dec. 21 — Winter Solstice
The first day of astronomical winter is Saturday, December 21. The winter solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. This is traditionally the first day of winter. This year the day is predicted to be sunny and bright. Days will steadily get longer.
Dec. 23 — Pennebaker Foundation Grant
The Pennebaker foundation will be accepting applications until Dec. 23, for grants and gifts that it will make. The Pennebaker Foundation was founded in 1986 for the purpose of promoting the welfare of Henry County citizens and charitable organizations organized in Henry County. Grants and gifts can be made to nonprofit Henry County organizations. Grant requests may be mailed to: Pennebaker Foundation in care of Stephanie Nelson 2332 Racine Avenue, New London, IA 52645. All applications must be tax exempt as determined by the Internal Revenue Service and must include the tax- exempt federal ID #.
Dec. 25 — Christmas Day
Over 2 billion people around the world celebrate Christmas Day. Traditionally, Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas has become a public cultural event and is an important family time of year.
Dec. 28 — New London VFW Post 7641 Catfish and Chicken Dinner
5-7 p.m. Catfish $13 and Chicken $9 per person dinners are available. Dinner Includes: Roll & Choice of 2 Sides. Sides: French Fries, Baked Beans & Coleslaw. These dinners are served every second and fourth Saturday evenings. Takeout is available as well.
