Dec. 30 — Jan. 13 — Self Guided First Day Hike
Henry County Conservation has a brand-new walk/hike planned with new signs and information. Begin at Turtle Town outside the Oakland Mills Nature Center, get your instructions and hike this interesting trail. Stop to read signs posted with fun facts, trivia and more. Dress for the weather. This year post a picture of yourself along the trail for a chance to win a prize.
Jan. 2 — School Resumes
New London students return to their classrooms after winter break.
Jan. 4 — Owl Prowl — Lee Co
6 p.m. — Meet at the campground entrance in Chatfield Park with Naturalist Clay. The hike will last about an hour. Listen for owl calls, learn about owl behavior and enjoy the peaceful nighttime scenery. Dress Warmly, wear sturdy shows and bring a flashlight. Be prepared to be quiet and patient. Email conservation@leecountyiowa.gov or call 319-463-7673 to reserve your spot. A second Owl Prowl is planned for Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. That hike will begin at the shelter house in Pollmiller Park.
Jan. 11 — New London VFW Post 7641 Catfish and Chicken Dinner
5-7 p.m. Catfish $13 and Chicken $9 per person dinners are available. Dinner Includes: Roll & Choice of 2 Sides. Sides: French Fries, Baked Beans & Coleslaw. All white meat chicken is available for $9 as well. These dinners are served every second and fourth Saturday evenings. Take out is available as well. Enjoy an evening meal at home or at the VFW.
