Feb. 1: Tiger Shooting Sports Fundraiser
5:30 p.m. The Tiger Shooting Sports Team will hold its annual Banquet and Fundraiser. The event is being held at the VFW in Mount Pleasant. Social time begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7. Banquet tickets are $25. The dinner includes 2 meats, 2 sides, rolls and dessert. Many activities and raffles are part of the evening. The Banquet is just 2 weeks away. Get your tickets soon. Students aged 11 and under are free. This is a great family event. Auction items are needed and there are early gun raffle tickets available. Plan to attend and learn about this fast-growing national sport.
Feb. 2: Friends of Geode First Quarter Meeting
2 p.m. Friends of Geode will meet in the Bob Dodds Meeting Roin in Danville. day, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Bob Dodds Meeting Room in Danville. Find out what is happening with the concession building. Great progress is being made. We will be discussing ways to meet a $15,000 matching grant challenge from a private donor. Every member is welcome and everyone’s support is appreciated.
Feb. 2: Groundhog Day
Have some fun. Get out and see if you can catch your favorite groundhog. Predict the future onset of Spring!
Feb. 4: Henry County Conservation presents Raptors in Flight
5:30-7 p.m. Hawks and owls are some of the most majestic of Iowa’s birds. Learn all about what makes raptors special and compare your senses to a raptor’s! Then meet some of the birds who call Oakland Mills home. This program will feature live education birds and will be held partly outside, so dress for the weather.
Feb. 5: Last day to Pre-register for the Landowner’s Prescribed Fire Workshop Feb. 13.
8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. February 13, 2025 at the Lee County Conservation Center at Heron Bend Park in Montrose, the Prescribed Fire Workshop hosted by The Great Rivers Conservation Alliance of Southeast Iowa will be held. This workshop is geared toward landowners who are interested in using prescribed fire as a management tool for prairies and woodlands, although anyone 18 and older may attend. Volunteer fire fighters are also encouraged to attend and may find this class helpful in responding to wildfires. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Participants can register and pay online at https://www.tri-rivers.org/new-events. Contact Muscatine County Conservation at 563-264-5922 or conservation@muscatinecountyiowa.gov with questions. The $25 fee includes class materials, coffee, rolls, and a catered lunch. Registration and morning refreshments will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the workshop starting at 9:00 am
Feb. 7: Lee County Conservation holds second Owl Prowl
6:30 p.m. Gather at the shelter house in Pollmiller Park for an evening walk with Naturalist Lia. Each hike will last about an hour, with plenty of time to listen for calls, learn about owl behavior, and soak up the peaceful nighttime scenery. Dress warmly, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a flashlight (just in case!). Families and nature enthusiasts of all ages are welcome! Come prepared to be quiet, patient, and immersed in the magic of the forest at night! These events are free! To reserve your spot, email us at conservation@leecountyiowa.gov or call 319-463-7673. Feb. 8: New London VFW Post 7641 Catfish and Chicken Dinner
5-7 p.m. Catfish $13 and Chicken $9 per person dinners are available. Dinner Includes: Roll & Choice of 2 Sides. Sides: French Fries, Baked Beans & Coleslaw. These dinners are served every second and fourth Saturday evenings. Take out is available as well. Enjoy an evening meal at home or at the VFW.
Feb. 11: Preschool Open House
5:30-7 p.m. Preschool parent night open house for upcoming preschool students will be held in the preschool room at Clark Elementary. Entry to the building will be the south doors. If you have a child that will be 4 yrs. old by Sept. 15, 2025 then he/she would be eligible to attend. This is a tuition free preschool that is taught by a licensed teacher. Please call 319-367-0507 to get your students' names on the roster. Your child is welcome to attend the Open House.
Feb. 13 Kindergarten Roundup
5:30-7 p.m. Clark Elementary begins its search for all of the upcoming kindergarten students for the 2025-2026 school year. We have scheduled Parent's Night Open House in the kindergarten rooms at Clark Elementary. Entry to the building will be at the south doors. If your child will be 5 years old by Sept. 15, 2025 please attend our parent night. Please bring your student with you so he/she will have an opportunity to meet the teachers and see the classrooms. Please call 319-367-0507 and make sure your student is on the list. We look forward to seeing you.
