Feb. 14: Valentine’s Day
Roughly 59% of the people across the globe celebrate this day. Valentine’s Day celebrations began in the 1700swith cards exchanged between lovers.
Feb. 15: HJ Nugen Library Saturday Storytime Adventures
9:30 a.m. A story (half hour) filled with stories and activities for all children who love to be read stories. Babies school age children are welcome. Activities are geared for younger children, but are easily adaptable for all ages. This activity is held the 1st & 3rd Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 10:00 am at the HJ Nugen Public Library.
Feb. 15: HCC Seed Swap and DIY Greenhouse
1-3 p.m. Calling all gardeners! If you are already dreaming of spring planting season, come swap garden seeds and stories with others who feel the same. Addition fun will be building our own miniature greenhouse using a milk jug. Seasoned gardeners and newbies are both welcome. Preregistration is appreciated but not required.
Feb. 17: Presidents Day NO SCHOOL
Feb. 17: “Unconditional Surrender: A Visit with Ulysses S. Grant”
Noon & 6:30 p.m. Celebrate President’s Day at Mount Pleasant’s Union Block Building. Writer and Actor Peter Grady tells the story of Ulysses S. Grant . Harlan-Lincoln House invites you to this free event. You will have two opportunities to attend this unique program. Gain a new understanding of America’s 18th President.
Feb. 21: Last Day to Register for the Des Moines County Master Gardeners Winter Seminar
Seminar fee is $50 if registered by 2/14/25. $55 if registering February 15-21. No Registrations Accepted after February 21, 2025. Go to https://go.iastate.edu/CINEYK to complete signup.
Feb. 22: New London VFW Post 7641 Catfish and Chicken Dinner
5-7 p.m. New London VFW post 7641 is serving their delicious Catfish & Chicken Dinner. Catfish is $13 per person and Chicken is $9 per person ! Your dinner includes a roll and a choice of 2 sides: French fries, baked beans and coleslaw.
Mar. 7-8: Shrek the Musical Performances
Shrek is just a month away. Plan to attend a performance of this engaging musical recounting the adventures of the lovable ogre, Shrek. Friday 7 p.m. Saturday 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Watch the New London Journal for information.
