March. 28: Dover Historical Society resumes monthly Board meetings
1:30 p.m. The monthly meeting of the Dover Historical Society will be held Friday, March 28. at the museum. All members are invited to attend. Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
March. 29: New London Iowa Dollars for Scholars Fundraiser
5-7 p.m. The 2025 Dollars for Scholars auction will be held at the New London Community School, Lorber Gymnasium, on Saturday, March 29th. For a Free Will donation visitors will be served a delicious meal prepared by the New London School's food class. Auction will start at 6 p.m. New London graduating students are all eligible for the money raised by this organization. “Scholarship” is really defined as meeting the needs of students beginning their postgraduation careers. The community wants to see all its graduates succeed as they begin their lives beyond public school.
March. 29: Lee County Conservation Center in person Hunter Education Course
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 29. Lee County Conservation Center is offering an in-person Hunter Education Course. This is a great opportunity for our young men and women to get certified, purchase a license and be ready for the 2025 Fall hunting season. April 1: Brown Bag Lecture Series returns
Noon: The Harlan-Lincoln House announces the return of the Brown Bag Lecture Series this April at the Belle Center, formerly the IWC Chadwick Library. The lectures will take place in the room immediately to the right of the front entrance the first four Tuesdays of the month. On April 1, Paul Juhl, historian and author of Mount Pleasant Memories, will present “A Divine Legend: Madame Sarah Bernhardt and Rochester, Iowa.” Juhl is the recipient of the 2023 Irving Weber Award for Johnson County History. This lecture is free of charge. Donations to Harlan-Lincoln House are welcome.
April 3: Mount Pleasant Library welcomes Linda Betsinger McCann
5 p.m. Iowa Author and Speaker Linda Betsinger McCann will be speaking on her newest book, “Rosie The Riveters of Iowa.” Over one hundred factories in Iowa hired women to turn out items for the war. Airplanes, tanks, ammunition, and all kinds of parts were produced in Iowa. Linda will have books available for purchase. The event will be held upstairs in the Civic Center Meeting Room
April 4: New London LIONS Breakfast for Supper Fundraiser
5:30-7:30 p.m. Join the LIONS at their annual Breakfast for Supper Fundraiser. The meal will be served in the Clark Elementary Cafeteria. Great food and super company as one helps the Lions Club continue their important work for the community and school.
April 4: Mount Pleasant Public Library to host Judge C.J. Wiliams
4:30 p.m. Judge C.J. Williams will speak about his book “Monster in Mount Pleasant: A Story of Murders and Justice.” The Beaver and Wheelock murders still haunt Mount Pleasant. Judge Williams has studied the records of the investigation and interviewed the murderer. He will have books available for purchase, as. The event will be held upstairs in the Civic Center Meeting Room
April 5: New London Class of 2025 Promenade
7 p.m. “Under the Stars” is the theme of the Class of 2025 Junior-Senior Prom. The Promenade begins at High School Gym. Parents and the community look forward to the Promenade. The Juniors, Seniors and their guests will then proceed to the Clark/MS gym to dance and visit from 8-11 p.m. Post Prom doors will be locked at 11:45 to complete this special evening with fun and prizes.
