May 30: Henry County Conservation presents Women: Woods, Wine, Flowers
6 p.m. Flowers are beautiful, but their beauty fades quickly. Find out the best way to preserve them and make art worthy of being hung on a wall. This Women. Woods. Wine. event starts with a social time with alcohol provided, and you can also bring your own. Preregistration is required via mycountyparks.com at least 1 week prior to the meeting. Adults 21+ only. All meetings will be held in the Oakland Mills Nature Center. FREE.
May 31: Dover Museum is open for visitors
1-4 p.m. The Dover Museum, 213 W. Main Street, is open for summer visiting. Come and enjoy a look at New London’s past.
June 1: Stride into Summer with a Family Walk
1-4 p.m. Healthy Henry County Communities and Henry County Public Health invites you to visit fun, family-friendly activity stations as you walk a loop through the park! Start by the tennis courts — a wagon or stroller is recommended! New London’s Nugen Public Library will begin its summer Story Walk activity. Plan to join and engage the entire Story Walk dates are June 1 — August 7. The winner will be revealed Aug 8.
May 28 — June 18: ISU Extension and Outreach hosts its summer camps
1-3 p.m. Henry County 4-H and area libraries are hosting free summer camps. The camps are designed for elementary-aged students. Themes for the summer camps are “Dive into live under the sea” and “Venture into the wild.” Hands-on STEM activities are used. Contact the New London HJ Nugen Library — May 28 & June 4, the Winfield Public Library — June 5 & June 12 and the Salem Crew Library — June 11 & June 18. Please register.
June 7: Preserve the Bridge Fundraiser
7 a.m. — 2 p.m. Preregistration may be done early at Oakland Mills Bait and Tackle or at 6 a.m. on June 7. This is the First Annual Catfish Tournament. Entry fee is $20 per person. There is a separate BIG CAT competition with entry $10 for adults/$5 for kids. Sign up at the South Shore Oakland Mills Dam area. Fish must be caught in the Skunk River. There is a five fish limit for the regular tournament. One catfish is eligible for Big Cat Competition. Fish must be alive at weigh in. A free will donation fish fry will be held at 3:30 at Oakland Bait. Other fundraising activities are available. Help restore the historic bridge across the Skunk.
