June 7: Preserve the Bridge Fundraiser
7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Pre-registration may be done early at Oakland Mills Bait and Tackle or at 6 am on June 7. This is the First Annual Catfish Tournament. Entry fee is $20 per person. There is a separate BIG CAT competition with entry $10 for adults/$5 for kids. Sign up at the South Shore Oakland Mills Dam area. Fish must be caught in the Skunk River. There is a five fish limit for the regular tournament. One catfish is eligible for Big Cat Competition. Fish must be alive at weigh in. A free will donation fish fry will be held at 3:30 at Oakland Bait. Other fundraising activities are available. Help restore the historic bridge across the Skunk.
June 7: Henry County Heritage Trust presents “Voices from the Past”
2 p.m. Spend an afternoon going back in time. Tour the museum to hear the stories of four Henry County veterans, portrayed by reenactors in period attire. The men will be stationed in different rooms of the museum and their stories will be repeated several times during the afternoon. Learn about the+Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI and WWII from firsthand accounts. The Van Allen House and the Heritage Center Museum are also open from 1-4 p.m.! The museum is located at 203 N. White Street, Mount Pleasant.
June 14: Paddle the Skunk
1-5 p.m., The Skunk is a beautiful river, so come explore it up close! Both canoes and kayaks are welcome, although kayaks must be brought by participants. Meet at Waterworks Campground. Preregistration is required before June 7, but space is limited, so register quickly! This event may be rescheduled based on water levels.
June 14: Flag Day
Flag Day is a day to honor the American flag and its history. It commemorates the adoption of the first national flag design by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. Take time to reflect on on the meaning of the flag and the responsibilities required by a democracy.
June 15: Father’s Day
Father's Day is a holiday honoring one's father, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Take some time and say “Thank you.”
