July 11-24: HCC Guided Hike “Weather”
Come learn about weather as you walk along the trails at Oakland Mills Park. Begin at Turtle Town next to the Oakland Mills Nature Center where you will receive further instructions on where to go next. Free! Fun!
July 12-13: Dover Museum welcomes visitors
1-4 p.m. The Dover Museum in New London is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons every weekend through October. Begin at 213 W. Main Street and plan to visit the entire campus including the Pilot Grove Depot and the Chapel.
July 12: Henry County Heritage “Voices from the Pas”
2 p.m. Meet Preacher and Orator Henry Clay Dean (1822-1887 portrayed by Spencer Barton; Barber Samuel McCracken (1842-1925) rendered by Tony Campbell and Cabdriver Vera Shafer (1919-2011) depicted by Bev Benda. These interesting Henry County persons will appear at the Heritage Center Museum, 403 West Madison, Mount Pleasant.
July 12: Nugen Public Library sponsors Nerf Wars (held at Clark Gym)
There will be 2 separate nerf events, one for 5th grade and younger at 3 p.m. and one for teens (6th grade & up) at 6 p.m. Bring your own nerf gun. It should use standard bullets (blue with orange tips) DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN NERF BULLETS. The library will provide them. All bullets will stay at the library. There will be obstacles that you can hide behind, run around and shoot targets and take aim (safely) at your friends. The event will take place at the New London new Clark gym. Plan on lots of fun.
July 12: New London VFW Post 7641 Saturday night dinner.
5-7 p.m. The New London VFW Post 7641 is serving dinner for just $12! Choose between a Ham Steak meal or rib-eye steak meal including a baked potato, salad, and roll!
July 13: Harlan Lincoln House holds Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social
1:30-4 p.m.: The Harlan Lincoln House, 101 W. Broad St. in Mt. Pleasant invites everyone to an Old Fashioned Ice Scream Social with Music — 4 p.m.! Enjoy homemade ice cream, chocolate cake, & cookies! Bring your lawn chair and listen to music provided by Dave Johnson, Jim DePriest, Adam Creager, Jason Edwards, and Gerry Runyon! Get your picture taken with Robert Todd and Mary Harlan Lincoln cutouts!
July 15-21: Henry County Fair
The Henry County Fair at McMillan Park in Mount Pleasant starts this week! Check the schedule for all the events planned. Catch the Horse Show! On Sunday and continue through the week. The Queen Contest is Wednesday night, the Bill Riley Talent Show is Thursday, and the Demolition Derby is Saturday night! Don’t miss one day of the Henry County Fair with a closing KILJ Breakfast by the livestock building on Monday.!
July 17: Henry County Conservation — Introduction to Disc Golf
Disc golf is a fun sport that goes far beyond throwing a frisbee. Learn the rules and strategies, then play a few rounds on the Oakland Mills course! Preregistration is not required. If you have discs, please bring them, but we will also provide some for participants. Meet at the Top-of-Hill shelter house.
