Aug. 21: New London “Meet Your Teacher” and 6th Grade Orientation
5:30-6:30 p.m. Summer is nearly over!! Clark Elementary "Meet Your Teacher Night" is a great time to come in, meet the teachers and drop off school supplies. We look forward to seeing you all and to another great year! 6th Grade Orientation is also scheduled at the MS/HS auditorium. First day of school for students is Aug. 25. Enjoy the rest of your summer break!
Aug. 22: Dover Board meeting
1:30 p.m. The monthly meeting of the Dover Historical Society will be held Friday, August 22 at the museum. All members are invited to attend as your input is welcome.
Aug. 22: Meet the players
Fall sports are well underway for the players, coaches and New London families. Don’t miss this chance to meet the members of the volleyball, cross-country and football teams. GO TIGERS!!
Aug. 22 – 24: Salem Old Settlers Celebration
Salem Old Settlers has a full weekend schedule. Advance carnival tickets for Joe’s Old-Fashioned Fun Carnival are on sale at Kramer’s for a huge discount. You can purchase advance tickets until 4:45pm on Friday, Aug. 22nd. Also, be sure to register for the Bags Tournament!$20/team and you can call Heidi at 319-931-9741 for details.
Aug. 23: P.E.O. Chapter EV selling Fall Mums
8:30 a.m.-Noon: P.E.O. Chapter EV will be selling FALL MUMS in the Elliott Chapel parking lot on Redbud Lane in New London. The mums are large plants with many buds in 9 inch pots. $20 for single colors and $25 for multi colors. All proceeds go to fund scholarships and grants to help further education for women.
Aug. 23-24: New London Lions Red Barn Breakfast Fundraiser
7-11 a.m. Join the Lions for a great breakfast at the Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge on Saturday or Sunday. This is an important event. Come one and all to support the Lions and their important work.
Aug. 24: Walmart Warehouse Yard Sale
7 a.m.-2 p.m. The Walmart Warehouse at 1501 E. Mapleleaf Drive in Mt. Pleasant is having a yard sale. The sale is open to the public and all proceeds will go to the Children’s Miracle Network. and benefit the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Aug. 24: Dover Sunday presents the History of Geode State Park
1:30 p.m. Dave Smith is the guest speaker at the Dover Museum, 213 W Main St, New London, IA. His family has long been associated with Geodes – the Iowa State Rock and the Geode State Park. Dave was the President of Friends of Geode and has been an important part of the efforts to restore the concession stand at the park and the work done to re-establish the park as Iowa’s Outdoor Gem. The program is free.
Aug. 25: FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Aug. 27: Harvest Day Parade
3:30 p.m. Kick off Old Threshers 2025 with the annual Harvest Day Parade in downtown Mt. Pleasant! Floats, Mt. Pleasant School District Marching Bands, tractors, cars, steam engines, horses, Miss Sweet Sixteen Candidates, and more! Veterans meet at the Veterans Hall at 2:15. Ride in the parade or carry Military Branch flags. Make this a special day for all the community to honor you.
Aug. 28 – Sep. 1: Celebrate the 75th anniversary the Midwest Old Settlers & Threshers Reunion!
The first Reunion was held September 20 - 21, 1950. The records show that 15 Steam Engines and 8 Separators were exhibited with an estimated 10,000 people attending the first Reunion. Now 95-40,000 attend. Originally held on the fairgrounds, the site now covers 150 acres. See you there!
