On Sept. 8, the NL Tigers suffered their third loss of the season at the hands of the Iowa Valley Tigers, 68-22. They were without the services of Brigham Porter and London Franklin who both had surgery to repair broken bones suffered in the W-MU game. Josiah Denney was also out of commission due to a small fracture in his hand and illness.
New London did all their scoring in the second quarter. QB Gavin Menke-Bailey was 2-of-12 passing for 26 yards, one TD, and an interception. Cale Westerbeck caught a pass for 20 yards and scored a TD. Logan Franklin caught a pass for six yards.
Menke-Bailey carried the ball 31 times for 154 yards and two TDs. He also had two 2-point conversions. Corbin Jacobs-Jewell gained 11 yards on 21 carries, and freshman Riley Raines gained five yards on 13 carries for a total of 170 rushing yards.
The leading tackler was Menke-Bailey with 10 total with eight solo. Michael Raines added 5.5 with three solo. Logan Franklin added 4.5, Nic Loyd had 3.5, and Paxton Lindsey had 3.
Westerbeck had three kick returns for 31 yards. Menke-Bailey had two for 12 yards, and the Raines brother each returned one.
This game saw another Tiger injured. Kye Reighard suffered a knee injury in the first game of the season and had been cleared to play Iowa Valley. He was reinjured and his status is unknown.
This season has been difficult for the players, coaches, and fans … rebuilding seasons always are. The home game slated for Sept. 15 has been canceled due to the mounting number of injuries. The JV game scheduled for Monday, Sept. 18 is also canceled. They are non-District games against Central City. It will give our boys an extra week to regroup and recuperate. The JH game will go on as scheduled at Central City.
These young Tigers need our support more than ever … see you at the games … Go Tigers!
