JH Boys Basketball Kicks Off

The JH Boys seventh and eighth grade teams took to the floor for their first game Jan. 11. Dodging anticipated snow and bitter cold, the boys were able to play. They soundly defeated the Van Buren County Warriors.

The 7th team is the first team in decades that haven’t had 6 o’clock morning practices with the new gym being finished. The team is manned by Paisley Owens, Linken Welcher, Zane Long, Kellan Porter, Reid Lindsey, Eli Hinton, Tatum Reed, and John Gallup. The final score was 52 to 17 … the Tigers roared!

Kellan Porter had a game-high 29 points to pace the Tigers. Paisley Owens had five as did Linken Welcher. Zane Long and Reid Lindsey each added four. Tatum Reed scored three and John Gallup rounded out the scoring with two.

The 8th grade team is made up of Owen Severson, Emmett Garza, Kinnick Butterbaugh, Gavin Strawhacker, Cole Swanson, Jaece Deterding, Dylan Burden, and Nate Bergman. They played hard and beat Van Buren County 35 to 27.

Cole Swanson and Gavin Strawhacker were high scorers with nine each. Dylan Burden and Jaece Deterding each scored six, and Kinnick Butterbaugh hit a 3-pointer. Owen Severson added two.
