Lee County Conservation to offer hunter education course

Iowa law requires people 16 and older to a hunting license and pay habitat fees. Youngsters under 16 do not need a license or pay the Wildlife Habitat Fee but must be hunting under the direct supervision of a licensed adult. Further, Iowa law requires anyone born after January 1, 1972 to complete and pass a Hunter Safety course before they can purchase an Iowa hunting license.

In person courses are not offered frequently. The one-day course includes both classroom and field day sessions.

Saturday, March 29 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lee County Conservation Center is offering an in person Hunter Education Course. This is a great opportunity for our young men and women to get certified, purchase a license and be ready for the 2025 Fall hunting season. The program introduces students to many types of outdoor recreational activities and the skills important to enjoying the outdoors. Basic survival and first aid skills are at the tope of the list. Wildlife identification and wildlife management are included with hunting laws and water safety. The hunter education course encompasses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics along with firearm and archery safety. Students get a chance to visit one on one with both avid hunters and personnel responsible for enforcing Iowa’s hunting laws.

While there is an official Iowa Hunter Safety Course online. It does not have the advantage of personal interaction or field opportunities. Lee County offers a great way to ensure your child’s hunter education class will make his/her hunting experiences top-notch.
