New London youngsters gathered at the H.J. Nugen Library for an afternoon of experimenting and building with LEGOS. Joe, Heidi and Korbin Paradysz began the program by sharing some of Joe’s collection of LEGO models. Joe prefers to be known as Blind Brick Builder Joe. He shared his knowledge of the development and history of the LEGO Company is extraordinary. As he displayed his creations, Joe’s passion for building was infectious. n. Blind Brick Builder Joe is now using technology to help him build and find new ideas. New London students are now aware that the LEGOS are no longer just a toy but have stretched their use to STEM education and helping children develop 21st century skills.
The Lego Group’s motto is “only the best is good enough.” The motto stands today even though it was created in 1936. The company has a long history. Beginning with wooden toys in 1932, the company progressed trying new materials. The interlocking toy bricks were introduced in 1949. Bricks made in that day will still fit into the models issued today. Annual production of bricks averages around 36 billion. Many different parts are now manufactured as the company expands its themes and its presence in films, games and Legoland amusement parks.
Thank you Joe Paradysz, Heidi Swenson Paradysz and Korbin J Swenson for coming to the library with this unique collection. Some of us will no longer think bad thoughts about LEGOS when we step on them barefoot in the middle of the night
