Let the School Year Begin!

The New London School Board met in regular session on Aug. 18, 2025 with members Jen Loyd and Lindsay Porter absent. No one addressed the board in public forum and they approved the agenda and consent agenda as presented.
The first items were fundraisers. The board approved the following:
- FFA — T-shirt sales
- HS Student Council — senior parking spots, Homecoming gear, Homecoming dance, and Tiger snack store
- Eighth grade — field trip — Flour Barn mini cake fundraiser
- Esports — sponsor renewals
Superintendent Wahls gave his report. The teachers had several days of PD (professional development). The building is ready for students as he praised the maintenance and custodial staff for the excellent job they have done. A 24-year old dishwasher has been replaced, a soft serve machine has been purchased, and they are looking into purchasing a combi steam oven with money allotted for food service.
The Administration team has created three goals for the year.
- Creating independent students utilizing the book The Leader in Me
- They will look for evidence improving literacy by walk-throughs and then providing feedback to the teachers
- Insuring that teachers bring student data to PLC team meetings. These meetings will be focused on identifying learning issues that need to be addressed and how they will be handled
The board approved the following actions in personnel matters:
Resignations — Lexi Banks — Sp. Ed. associate and Dennis Carter — Cohead B/G golf coach.
Appointments — Brody Bailey — summer tech assist.: Jayden Flowers — Full-time District substitute; Halee Porter, — at-risk assoc., Stephanie Stevens, Katherine Davis, Ashley Aguilar, Paige Worrel, Katie Tur, and Jamie Drummond — Sp. Ed. assocs.; and Ryan Burk and Loren Jacobs — shared part-time custodial position.
In board business, they took the follow actions:
- Approved the Emergency Operations plan with updates.
- Approved Dr. Benjamin Carter as team medical person at athletic events.
- Approved “permission to travel out of state.”
- Approved student handbook cellphone policy revisions.
- Approved board policy 503.9-student use of personal electronic device with the second reading waived.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:25 p.m. The next regular meeting of the New London school board will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2025 in the success center.
