Lions hold popular Red Barn Breakfast fundraiser

This year the New London Lions Club is holding its Red Barn Breakfast fundraiser two mornings: Saturday, Aug. 26, 7-10:30 a.m. and Sunday Aug. 27, 8 a.m.-noon.

The traditional breakfast menu includes two biscuits, gravy, eggs, sausage and hash brown patties. The cost is $10. The location is the Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge at 206 North Main.

In these days of excessive heat, a relaxing, robust breakfast in a temperature-controlled room is a great way to start the day.

Lions Clubs everywhere are a great asset to their communities. The New London Lions provide many services to New London as well as to national projects supported by its National and International organizations.

A few of the New London projects supported are the Tiger Food Bank, Senior Scholarships, HJ Nugen Library Summer Reading program, Meals on Wheels delivery, breakfast at Specialty Care, hot dogs during citywide trick-or-treat, local blood drives, the community egg hunt and vision testing for enrolling Kindergartners.

Henry County, surrounding communities and Iowa benefit by the New London Lions participation in other projects such as Iowa KidSight/Iowa Child Vision Screenings, Hearing and Vision Help of the Needy, Eyeglasses and Hearing Aid Collections, Henry County Habitat for Humanity, Iowa Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership, Camp Hertko Hollow, Camp Courageous, Alzheimer’s Research, American Diabetes Association, Iowa Lions Youth Camp and Iowa Special Olympics.

Larger related organizations such as the Iowa Lions Foundation and the Lions Club International Foundation should also be included in the support list.

The New London Lions describe themselves as a small but mighty group. As an aside they like to have a lot of fun while supporting all these worthy causes.
