•Bob McCleary and Nancy Schau were married April 28 at Farmington.

•For the 4th consecutive year, the NLHS Band, directed by Ron Coberley, has earned Division I ratings at large group contest.

•A new organization, National Honor Society, was started at NLHS.

•Engelhard Beauty and Barber are observing their 43rd year in business. They took out an ad to dispel rumors that they were quitting.

1998

•Chamber of Commerce Pres. Dave Smith and Chamber Board member Chester Coleman proudly display the new banners that will adorn city light poles on Main Street.

•Robin Lamm and Shirley Chrisman have been accepted for the fall term at Iowa Wesleyan College.

•New NHS members for 1998-1999 were Samantha Stanley, Nathan Henderson, Curt Mueller, Stephanie Van Syoc, Angie Stevens, and Erin Lyles.

•The Tiger boys golf team beat the Maharishi team 170 to 177. Scott Kracht was medalist with a 39.

•From New London, Shannon Sanderson won the Governor Scholar Award.

•Tyler Shinkle placed 4th in the 400 meter dash at the Conference meet at West Burlington.
