1950
- Mrs. Wallace Riepe will be hostess to the L. T. Club at her home. Recently, at the New London Hall, Mrs. Clarence Reid entertained at a luncheon with 15 members in attendance.
- In freshman news, Connie Rapien reported that Monica Simmons called a class meeting to discuss class dues. The class dues will be continued through the end of the school year.
- Senior interviews this week: Marie Wheaton, Bernita Weigert, and Suzanne Wessel.
- John Strothman celebrated his 9th birthday on March 11 and treated his class to candy jawbreakers.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Story of Seabiscuit” starring Shirley Temple and Barry Fitzgerald and “The Secret Garden” starring Margaret O’Brien and Herbert Marshall.
- Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Stutelberg, Danville, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jean Elizabeth, to Carl Totemeier, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Totemeier, New London. The wedding will be an event in early autumn.
- The New London Garden Club will meet with Mrs. Earl Boyer on March 21 at 2 p.m. Roll call, “Irish Sayings,” “Legend of the Lilac,” will be presented by Mrs. Phil Westerbeck.
1975
- Mrs. Dewey Hess, former New London resident, died last week as reported to the Journal by Mrs. Max Hasenclever. Mrs. Hess was preceded in death by her husband. He was a former pharmacist for many year and worked in the drugstore here several years ago.
- The Junior High sports banquet will be Monday, March 24 at the school cafeteria. Joe Miller will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
- Senior interviews this week are Ramona Elgin and Mary Diener.
- Mrs. Barbara Bontrager visited Friday through Wednesday in the home of her mother, Mrs. Helen Bishop. The Bontragers live in Lexington, Kentucky.
- Safety Rebekah Lodge No. 409 met Monday evening for their regular meeting and hospitality night with 87 members present. The Noble Grand Mrs. Joyce Staley presided.
- Corinne Fullerton sent a thank-you card to the Journal to all those who sent cards while she has been laid up at home.
- Earl Smith and Don Winter of Geode Industries spent Tuesday in Des Moines on business.
2000
- Fifteen New London Tiger Cub wrestlers wrestling at Oskaloosa on March 18. The following boys will move on: Cody Brothersen, Nic Chiri, Nathan Parks, Todd Van Syoc — 8th grade; Mike Brown — 7th grade; Blayne Magdefrau, Dustin Powers — 6th grade; Zach Russell — 5th grade; Jeret Chiri, John Siegel, David Hudnell — 4th grade; and Ridge Hobbs and Trevor Powers — 3rd grade.

- At a specially called meeting on March 12, the New London City Council accepted the resignation of Councilman Greg Thu. No reason was given for the resignation.
