1950
- Dr. Perry J. Haist has opened a new dental office in the Iowa State Bank. He is a graduate of the dental college at the University of Iowa, he has practiced two years, and he is a World War II veteran.
- Petit jurors named from New London: Wilma Dutton, Mary Keuhnle, Frank Lundin, and Etta McClure.
- Senior Interviews this week: Jerry Vice, George Elliott, Marilyn Corrick, and Peggy Putney.
- The kindergarten class started their first reading class this week. The first ones to begin reading are: Rodney Lincoln, Linda Layman, Dianne Redfern, Johnny McKinnon, Jeff McKinnon, Eddie Marshall, Marilyn McCabe, Joyce Westerbeck, Carrol Smith, Delores Dockendorff, Darlene Baker, and Mary Jane Helmerson.
- Mrs. Forrest Burkhart entertained in honor of her daughter, Sara Jane’s 7th birthday which was April 3rd. All the girls in Miss Brennan’s first grade class were in attendance.
- This week at the Alamo: “My Friend Irma” starring John Lund and Diana Lynn and “Hold That Ghost” starring Abbott and Costello.
- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Patterson are expecting their son, Pfc. Roger Patterson, a member of the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California, to arrive home this morning. He left there Monday.
- Mr. and Mrs. John Piper called on his mother in the afternoon thus making all five sons present except Rev. Edward Piper, Prattsburg, NY.
1975
- Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanks observed their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, March 30. Helen Young and Clarence Hanks were married at the New London Methodist Church in 1935.
- Senior Interviews this week: Vickie Miller and Teresa Rich.
- Mr. and Mrs. Stan Walgren were in town Tuesday. They are former residents but now live in Wapello.
- Kevin Cole, who was injured in an auto accident on old Highway 34 east of town, is in room 314 in the Burlington Memorial hospital.
- Jim Alden, who also suffered injuries from the same accident, was released from the hospital.
- Thank-you notes in this week: Bill McKinnon, Mrs. Richard Anderson, Francis Little, and Grace Harper.

- A picture ad in the Journal celebrates Dawn Gipple’s April 15 wedding day. It was from her mom and dad.
- New London’s police chief Ty Thompson, Mayor Danny Cornell, and fire chief Steve Aanes received NOAA weather radios in a donation from several businesses and organizations for various Henry County entities.

- Obituaries this week: Darrell Wolfe and Vivian Bell.
- At the Danville track meet, Austin McBeth took 1st in the boys long jump at 19’ 7 ½.”
- The winners of the Easter Egg Hunt coloring contest were: 0-3 year olds was Branz Manning; 4-6 year old winner was Lexi Cohagan; and 7-10 year old was Noah Crossett. It was held at the New London Care Center.
