1950
- Mrs. Robert Riepe entertained in honor of her daughter, Kimm Sue’s first birthday. Guests included Mrs. Robert Dameron and Carolyn, Mrs. Wallace Riepe and Nancy, Mrs. Ralph Lee and Marlys, and Mrs. Karl Byrum and Michael. Grandmothers Mrs. Fred Riepe and Mrs. Milo McKim were also in attendance.
- Mr. and Mrs. John McClure entertained at Easter dinner in honor of Bert Harper’s birthday. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harper and Dolores, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph DeSpain and family.
- Ernest Riepe, 56, died in his sleep. He was survived by brothers Guy and Raymond Riepe, and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Kannegiesser.
- Three teenagers lost control of the car they were in and rolled it over twice. It was Arch Brown’s car. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt. The youths were Elizabeth Jones, Monica Simmons, Ray Brown, and Eddie Jones, 5.
- New officers were installed at the VFW. Bill Wellington — commander; Fred Brown — Sr. vice-commander; Jr. vice-commander — Clinton Bowman; Max Kuhlenbeck — chaplain; and adjutant — Elvin Dickey.
- Senior Interviews this week — Dorothy McKeag, Betty Prehm, Berdita Mosbey, and Clifford Brown.
- This week at the Alamo: “Adam’s Rib” starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn.
1975
- Mrs. Alice Roberts Gabriault, 91, of Iowa City, formerly of New London, died April 9. She was Gertrude Winebrenner’s mother.
- Carla Williamson, senior at Northeast Missouri State University, is a member of Delta Zeta social sorority and Lambda Alpha Epsilon law enforcement fraternity.
- Senior interviews this week: Dennis Lee Pfadenhauer and James R. Hanson.
- Solo and Ensemble contest yielded the following results: Receiving I’s were Maria Elliott-oboe solo; Bob McPheron-trumpet solo; Shiree Davey-clarinet solo; Shiree Davey, Marlene Lenz, Marilyn Eichler, Terry Gilleard-clarinet quartet.
2000
- Scott B. Cook of New London, 45, was hit and killed by a driver that did not see him outside of his car. The accident was at 11:30 p.m. when his car was having mechanical problems near Blue Grass. The accident is still under investigation.
- Obituaries this week: Don B. Bolick and Virgil Codner.
- The Journal received five Letters to the Editor. The authors were Roberta Doggett, Barbara Puffinbarger, Janet Jacobs, Dewayne Johnson, and Bruce Koeppi.
- P.E.O. will meet at the Presbyterian church with the program given by Elizabeth Garrels. Wanda McPheron will serve as hostess.
- High School Students of the Month were Dawn Schisler and Tony Kempker.
2015
- Noah Shawn Francis was born to Amanda and Justin Francis. He weighed 7 lbs. and 10 oz. Grandparents are Ray and Cheryl Francis and Shawn and Bonnie Mears.
