1950
- The class motto for the Class of 1950: “A stone fit for a wall will not be left by the wayside.”
- The DAR chapter elects officers: Regent — Vera Phinney; Chaplin — Mary Cook; Rec. Sec. — Margaret Marshall; and |Registrar — Mrs. A.D. Hayes.
- The sophomore class elected the following officers for next year: Pres. — Jim Breuer, VP — Robert Pennebaker, Sec. — Ruth Marshall, and Treas. — Jacque Harper.
- This week at the Alamo: “On the Town” starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra and “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” starring Walter Huston and Tim Holt.
- Don Preuss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Preuss, has been chosen as a candidate for the Nile Kinnick award at the University of Iowa.
- Sarah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Ruben, will marry Mr. Al Albaum in Chicago on May 28th.
- Mrs. Phil Westerbeck will entertain the Garden club on May 26. Mrs. Roy Hill and Mrs. Stephen Williams will have reports.
- Circle No. 5 with Mrs. Ted Layman, chairman, and Mrs. Harry Sharp, treasurer, entertained at a Silver Tea Wednesday.
1975
- Walter August Preuss (1896-1975) died at his home on May 5, 1975. He is survived by his wife, his daughter Freda Preuss McKinnon and sons Ted and Don Preuss.
- Senior interview this week: Kirk Lucas.
- Stephen Readinger was one of 147 graduates to receive his medical degree on May 16 in Iowa City.
- Graduation for 38 NLHS seniors will be Thursday, May 22 in the HS auditorium at 8 p.m.
- Cheerleading tryouts were May 6th. Varsity basketball cheerleaders for next season are Tami Toft (captain), Susan Winter, Teresa Boyd, Cindy Voyles, Sheri Williams, and Sharon Voyles.
2000
- Linda Farnsworth was recently named winner of Motorola’s CEO award for volunteerism. Linda was nominated for her service to the Dover Museum.
- The Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride Award winner this week is Wayne and Darlene Henessee for their 303 Thompson St. home.
- Obituary this week: James Conrad.
- Gavin Michael Prottsman was born on May 7 to Joel and Dusty Prottsman. He weighed 8 lb. 5 oz. Local grandparents are Jerry and Susie Prottsman and Bill and Cindy Phillips. Local great-grandparents are Ethel Prottsman, Elsie Miller, Rollie Smith, and Bonnie Malony.
2015
- The Class of 2015 graduates on May 17 at 2 p.m. in the Charles Lorber gymnasium. A class of 36, their motto is, “How long we live, not years but actions tell.”
- The following teacher hires were approved at the board meeting: Jill Parker — K, Rita Alspach — guidance counselor; and Lauren Jones — MS Special ed.
- Dale and Diane Brinkmeyer will celebrate their 70th wedding on May 29
