1950
- Mr. and Mrs. Earl Drewer were surprised Sunday, when their son-in-law, V.A. Masciana, stopped in route to his home in Brooklyn. His wife Joyce and three-year old son weren’t along.
- P.F. Starr from Winfield will start to manufacture wagon boxes at the glove factory building.
- Everett Toft will be married Sunday to Miss Helen Upton of Burlington.
- Sunday morning the V.F.W and American Legion will sponsor a Memorial Day service at the HS auditorium. Rev. Paul McDade will speak.
- The P.E.O. will have a special meeting at the home of Mary Ireton.
- The school projection club gave awards to the boys that took time to show films at noon. They are Dick Gholson, Andy Breuer, Bob Evans, and Scott Elliott.
- Bill Reed and Dick Chandler. Both Parsons college students, they spent the weekend at the Carroll Reed home.
- Mrs. David Taeger received a thank-you from President Truman for the birthday cake she made him. It was dated May 26, 1950.
- Mrs. Dave Marshall is directing the daily Bible school which will run for two weeks.
- These local students will graduate from Iowa Wesleyan: Lyal Colton, Harold Appel, and Merle Caris.
- This week at the Alamo: “Pinky” starring Jeanne Crain and Ethel Barrymore and “The Fighting Kentuckian” starring John Wayne.
1975
- Ramona Elgin, class valedictorian, was selected as a State of Iowa Scholar.
- Sara Kilbourn was awarded the New London Medius Club scholarship.
- Ramona Elgin has been accepted at Iowa Wesleyan College.
- Earl Davis, Jr’s brother, Gordon, was killed in a mine cave-in.
- Mrs. Clarence Totemeier will be showing slides of a trip she and her daughter took to Europe in 1972. It will be at the New London city hall.
- The New London pool will open June 9 for the summer. Mr. Joe Miller will be in charge of the pool.
2000
- The chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride award goes this week to Dean and Carol Anderson for their home at 215 S. Pine St.
- Lion club members serving at the care center were Bob Cardoni, Charlotte McGregor, and Mark Fitzpatrick.
- Obituaries this week: Harold Lee, William Gittings, Martha Needham, and Frieda Smith.
- Irene Pollock celebrated her 94th birthday on May 27.
- An open house is planned in honor of Mrs. Morgan, Clark elementary principal, and Miss Jan Ireland, MS/HS principal on June 4.
2015
- Riley Grogan, Carson McSorley, and Quincy Porter are state track qualifiers.
- Autumn Blain, salutatorian, welcomed everyone to graduation.
- The class valedictorian was Cameron Watson.
- Obituaries this week: Richard “Dick” Baker, Elvin E. Denney, Myers, Joanne O. Denney, Lois V. Martin, and Wendy R. (Cue) Francy.
