1950
- Ed and Earl Smith and Lyal Colton visited Mark Twain caves in Hannibal, Mo.
- Dolores Harper and Ruth Marshall spent the weekend in Kansas City, Mo. visiting Bob Harper, who will remain another week, where he is being treated for his eyes.
- Dale Piper, Irving Synnes, Woodrow Hale, Raymond Cox, Bert Thomes, and Orville Kilbourn returned Sunday from a fishing trip near the Canadian border.
- Dr. Kenneth Dameron and son Kenny, 15, will arrive Friday from Columbus, Ohio, to visit the former’s mother, Mrs. R. H. Dameron and brother Mervin and wife.
- Postmaster Wilbur Flam bought the R. D. Fetterman home in the east end of town on highway 34.
- Swimming lesson will be given by Louise Doughty, a water safety instructor at the New London Country Club. Children who are not members should contact Mrs. Donald J. Bell, phone 75.
- Geode Industries has been revived again this year and is making geode ashtrays. Along with son, Earl, and Lyal Colton. E. N. Smith, who before the war, had a nice trade in Geode trays, will go back into production. The trays will last a lifetime.
- “Meet Your Neighbor,” a new feature introduces Mr. and Mrs. Albert Warth and family.
- This week at the Alamo: “Susanna Pass” starring Roy Rogers and Trigger and “The Lady Takes a Sailor” starring Jane Wyman and Dennis Morgan.
1975
- Personalized license plates are now available according to the Motor Vehicle dept. of the IDOT.
- Lester P. Hixom, 76, died unexpectedly on June 5, at his home. He worked for the Burlington Railroad as a station agent in New London and Mt. Pleasant for many years.
- Headliners for Steamboat Days are David Huston and Barbara Mandrell.
- John Phillips landed an 11 ½ pound catfish from his granddad’s pond southwest of town.
- Clarence Totemeier caught a 12 ½ pound Northern from his pond northeast of New London.
- Judy Ruth Herrill and Michael Joseph Garvey were united in marriage on May 31st.
- Lee Haines, brother of Mrs. Robert Shipley, has died. Mrs. Shipley left for Detroit, Mich. for funeral services.
- Mr. and Mrs. John Byrd of Bremerton, Washington are the parents of a baby girl born June 17, weighing 7 lb. 14 oz. She has been named Laura Christine.
2000
- New London Community Schools received $1,000 from Catfish Bend Riverfront Casinos to apply to a school project.
- Glenna Voyles designed an eye-catching bridal-themed window at the Dover Museum.
- Class of 1950 will hold their 50th class reunion.
- Beau Christopher Coberley was born to Mark and Denise Coberley, Ames on May 22nd. He weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz. He is the grandson of Ron and Claudia Coberley.
- Students named to the high honor roll from the sophomores are: Dawn L. Schisler, Rebecca N. Schweitzer, and Calie M. Stanley.
- The United States Achievement Academy announced that Clint M. Fedler from New London has been named an All-American Scholar.
2015
- The City Council meeting ended abruptly when three council members would not approve the agenda.
- Obituary this week: Nina Marie Allison.
- Ninth grade students on the high honor roll: Bailey Beckman, Ashley Birdsell, Lauren George, Sydni Labadie, Amy Leeper, Carlie Loyd, Samuel Loyd, Devin Lybarger, Katherine McAllister, and Carson McSorley.
