1950
- Kathryn and Freda Ball left for Washington D. C. for a week’s visit with Major and Mrs. W. R. Joy and Linda Ann.
- Mid and Wuzzy are going back into the café business in the Iowa State Bank building since the Thorntons closed it last week.
- This week’s Meet Your Neighbors: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Van Syoc and daughter Sherry.
- Ruth Marshall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Marshall, received word from the American Poetry Society in Los Angeles, CA that her poem titled “The Steps of Life” will be published in their magazine “Songs of Youth.”
- Members of the Boy Scouts have returned from a week of camp. Leaders from New London were Bob Harper and Ronnie Ritchey. Those who attended were Tom Ritchey, Bob Mehler, Burton Garland, Kenneth Putney, Larry Putney, Frank Lee, and Ronnie Stodgill.
- Sylvia Marie Layman, 10, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Layman, spent the weekend in Chicago with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Murphy, Moline, IL. Sylvia went to the zoo and other places of interest.
- Mr. and Mrs. Claude Noel returned home from visiting several days in Chicago. Their sons, Chuck, Tom, and Mike, visited with their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schach of Burlington while their parents were gone.
- This week at the Alamo: “Dear Wife” starring William Holden and “Mother Didn’t Tell Me” starring Dorothy McGuire.
1975
- Charles Hines, owner of the local Ford dealership, Hines Motors, Inc., has been honored by Ford Motor Co. by giving the dealership the Distinguished Service award.
- The NLHS jazz band and swing choir will combine to provide the entertainment at the New London Fourth of July celebration. The directors are Marla Morrison and Ron Coberley.
- The Class of 1949 held a reunion. Those attending included Janet Edwards Kilbourn, Eleanor Davey Budde, Terry Kilbourn, Jean Edwards Marshall, Dick Pollock, Bonnie Taeger Riley, and Dova Tompkins, a teacher for the class.
2000
- Dr. and Mrs. David Matheny and Mike and Shelly Matheny of Gardner, Kansas were recent visitors of Mary June Matheny.
- · Donnie Smith of Colorado is here visiting his mother, Woneta Smith, and other relatives and friends.
- The New London United Methodist church has received a Governor’s award “for 10 consecutive years as an Adopt-A-Highway sponsor.”
- The Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride Award winner is Marti Magel’s for her home at 106 E. Wilson.
- Bill and Joan Mathers will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 15th.
2015
- The 2015 Henry County Fair Queen candidates from New London were Emily Jacobs, Summer Miller, and Becca Strothman.
- Dover Museum celebrates 20 years.
- Monica Blanck will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house on July 18th.
- The New London softball team, riding a walk-off home run by Jorgi Krieger, advances to the state tourney.
