1950
- “Meet Your Neighbors” this week: Mr. and Mrs. Oran Toft and son Jimmy.
- School begins in New London on August 28th.
- Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shipley and Billy, Peggy and Barbie will leave for a week’s vacation in Detroit, Michigan.
- A group of classmates held a surprise bridal shower for Berdita Mosbey. Hostesses were Janet Preuss, Eileen Jones, Leatrice Patterson, Marilyn Corrick, Suzanne Wessel, and Joan Mathers.
- Frank Snook 66, died after suffering a stroke. He will be buried at Burge. Dale Piper, Max Collins, Robert Shipley, Carl Mathers, Ralph Eckles, and Roy Shipley were the pallbearers.
- This week at the Alamo: A double feature of “The Golden Stallion” starring Roy Rogers and Trigger and “Artic Fury” and “Savage Splendor.”
- Mr. and Mrs. Ray Slagle and Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Miller spent the weekend with Dr. and Mrs. Merlin Nugen and son in Peoria, Illinois.
1975
- Mr. and Mrs. Earl Davis, Jr. announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Debra Lynn, to David Joseph Kempker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Kempker.
- Debbie Locke, a recent graduate of the Burlington Beauty Academy, will join Eileen Shipley in her salon.
- School enrollment is up 30 students from last year to 723 this year.
2000
- Jennifer Simmons graduated from Mount Mercy College in May with a degree in science.
- This week’s Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride Award goes to Paul and Wanda McPheron’s home at 300 Sunset Drive.
- NLCSD changes in staffing: Shane Barron — MS science/PE; Sara Cummings — Elem. ELP/Recess assoc.; Allison Lair — HS language arts; Todd Liechty — MS/HS principal; and Barb Meyer — 4th grade.
2015
- Meet the Players is set for Aug. 21.
- Citizens vying for a seat on the school board are Melissa Anderson, Travis Benz, Laurie Hempen, Jesse Howard, Erica Pickle, and Skye Wellington.
