1950
- Word was received that Mrs. John DeBerg died very suddenly at the hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Her husband was a former pastor at the Presbyterian church here.
- “Sammy” Williams started down the inside stairs at the Lessenger home with her doll buggy and parasol. She fell down the whole flight, breaking her collar bone.
- Dr. H.E. Tyner is improving in the Burlington hospital. Delbert Gabbert has spent five weeks in the Burlington hospital and is slowly improving.
- The kindergarten will be divided into two groups of twelve weeks each. The first 12 weeks the country children will attend. For the second twelve weeks, the town kids will attend. The last twelve weeks both groups will attend.
- New London’s chiropractor, F. L. Luetkehans, D.C. Call 64-J for an appointment.
- Get polio insurance — see E.N. Smith at the Iowa State Bank Building. Phone 79.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Golden Stallion” starring Roy Rogers and Trigger and the double feature “Artic Fury” and “Savage Splendor.”
- Janitors Harley Ott and Rex Hill, substitute Henry Jacoba, helper James Everman, and janitor Ellsworth Jarvis have worked hard and have the building ready for students.
- Mrs. Albert Warth and Mrs. Jack Harper entertained their daughters, Carol Ann Warth and Dianne Harper at a theatre and slumber party for their birthdays. Those in attendance were Mary Lou Toft, Jane Marshall, Carol Flayharty, Eleanor Brown, Colleen Brown, and the birthday girls.
- Dick McPheron and Raymond Brown were arrested on Tuesday evening upon information filed by Florence Collins that they were driving recklessly. They appeared before Mayor Leedham who fined each boy a $25, $3.75 in court costs, and he recommended their licenses be suspended for 60 days.
1975
- Stella Chichester has retired as librarian from the H. J. Nugen Library after starting in January 1949. She recently fell on her way home from work, and after spending a week in the hospital, she decided to retire.
- The property located on S. Pine street, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivyl Landes recently sold to a family from Burlington.
- Stephanie (Siberts) Shively, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Perry Haist, has been chosen as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America for 1975.
- Mr. and Mrs. John Alden have moved to their new home on the Lowell road from their former home on East Main Street.
- Mr. and Mrs. Dann Larmore are the parents of a baby boy that has been named Ryan Daniel.
2000
- New London well have an Australian exchange student.
- The Chamber of Commerce’s Hometown Pride Award this week goes to Derek and Tera Coleman for their home at 410 East Main.
- Obituaries this week are Beatrice Thomes and Josephine Hardeman.
- Dog obedience classes will begin on Sept. 6 at Hometown Veterinary Care.
- School starts Monday, Aug. 22 in New London.
- Debbie McCall will be in concert at Old Threshers.
- Mason Chrisman and Ben and Nick Fry posed for “a back-to-school picture.”

- Citizens of Tomorrow — Shaylee Beothersen, Jordan and Johnathan Sharp, and Tate and Linken Welcher are all pictured.
- Movie Night in the Park on Aug. 21 with Tom Davis, Frank Staley, and Greg Malott helping out.
- Letters to the Editor from Jim and Sharon Helmerson and Koral Fuson this week.
- “Meet the Players” night and the Aug. 24 start of school have included many pictures in this week’s edition.
