1950
- Rose Dickey left Sunday afternoon for Great Bend, Kansas where she will spend a week with her brother’s family.
- Mr. and Mrs. David Calloway announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Mary Catherine, to James Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cox, on Sept. 12 at the Presbyterian church.
- New London is backing the safety campaign in the state which is now in progress until Sept. 6. John McKinnon, president of the Chamber of Commerce, reports 55 stop signs were sold to businesses to be displayed in their windows.
- Miss Frances Harriet Isley was married in her grandmother’s garden to Dr. Robert Howie Hardie. Miss Isley is the great-great granddaughter of Solomon Dover. He founded the town of Dover that was renamed New London.
- Mr. and Mrs. William Carter and children, of Columbia, South Carolina, were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Totemeier.
- Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Burkhart attended the Moore-Smith reunion at West Branch on Sunday.
- Chuck Noel returned home Saturday after a week’s visit with Mr. and Mrs. Byrl Noel and Jerry in Pekin, Ill.
- This week at the Alamo: “Ma and Pa Kettle Go to Town” starring Ma and Pa Kettle and “Dakota Hill” starring George Montgomery.
1975
- Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Thornburg announce the engagement and approaching marriage of daughter, Trudy Lynn, to Roger Duane Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Smith.
- Cards of Thanks from Bob Gray and Purl Mathews were in this week’s paper.
- Mr. and Mrs. Greg Bontrager have returned home after vacationing a week with their parents, Mrs. Helen Bishop and Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Bontrager.
- The high school football coaches this season are Lyle Clark, Ron Miller, and JH coach Paul Fietta.
- Mr. and Mrs. Howard Moon, former residents who now live in Knoxville, visited in the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Moon, over the weekend.
2000
- Kindergartner Shelby Buchholz is getting in the Tiger spirit by wearing Tiger apparel as pictured in the Journal.
- Larry and Sally Vickroy are moving to Nixa, MO. Betty Prehm has purchased their house.
- Visitors from Wednesday to Sunday at the Wayne and Darlene Henessee residence were their grandchildren Alyssa, Bryan, and Drew Clark and Spencer Henessee of Marion and Thomas Henessee of Bettendorf.
- At the open house at Clark Elementary on Aug. 25, the Journal caught up with Mason Chrisman and Ben Fry, both fourth graders and Nick Fry, second grader who were finding their rooms and meeting their teachers.
- This week’s Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride award go to Karl and Kay Fowler for their home at 502 E. McKinley.
2015
- The New London Care Center residents were honored to watch the wonderful dancing talents of local fair competitors that include Sophie Beenken, Aliyah Christensen, Marley Beenken, Megan Lee, and Kaitlyn Lee.
- Mr. and Mrs. Bob Byczek will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4. They were married at Trinity Methodist church in Mt. Union in 1965.
- Mr. and Mrs. Tom Noel will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 4, 1965 at the New London Presbyterian church.
- Serving food at the “Meet the Players” night were Helen Bailey, Carolee Benz, and Sharon Helmerson.
- Nicole Ingwersen walked her son Elijah to his classroom on his first day of kindergarten.
