1950
- NL football followers believe this is the year for the return of the Tiger spirit and a winning team. The Tigers will take the field to prove to fans that the major sport in New London for the last 30 years is coming back after two of the most listless years since the middle twenties. The team thinks this is their year!
- Paul McPheron, who will graduate from Northwestern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, has been awarded a plaque for getting the highest grades in his fraternity.
- There have been two cases of polio reported. Arlo Prehm, 18, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Prehm, who live southeast of New London, has entered Mercy Hospital in Burlington. Robert Detrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Detrick,18 months, is also in Mercy Hospital.
- Mary Catherine Calloway became the bride of James Raymond Cox. Her matron of honor was her sister, Mrs. Jack Sheetz. Terry Kilbourn and Jack Sheetz were ushers.
- The regular meeting of the Mary Elizabeth Missionary Society will at the home of Mrs. Mary Garrels. Mrs. Georgina Pease will provide the leadership. Mrs. Ethel Jarvis will be assisting the hostess and Mrs. Miriam Foggy will lead devotionals.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Eagle and the Hawk” starring Rhonda Fleming and “Buccaneer’s Girl” starring Yvonne DeCarlo.
- Rex Tomey, Burlington, bought the coal business from Stanford Lite. Tomey has named the business the New London Coal and Heating Co., Inc.
1975
- Debbie Locke is a medical patient at Burlington Memorial hospital. She is an operator at Eileen’s Beauty shop.
- Pictured are five generations of the Florence Hale family. They include Mrs. Cecil Venghaus (Ada Hale); Ralph Venghaus, Mrs. Florence Hale, and Mrs. Richard Wilkerson; and Douglas.
- Erv Berkshire hit a-hole-in-one at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club.
- Mr. and Mrs. Carol Reed returned home after spending four days with their son, Bob, and his family in Warrensburg, Illinois.
- The high school lettermen hope to lead the 1975 Tigers to a winning season. They are Mark Pennebaker, Ken Garvey, Bruce Bryant, Tom Hanson, Terry Brown, Brian Gibson, Mitch Raines, Jim Alden, Tim Gholson, Steve Blow, Kirk Miller, Jay Boyd, Roger Walker, Steve Mallams, and Scott Flam.
2000
- The New London School Board had two open seats that were filled by the election of Kelly Kadel and Sid Schmitt. Kadel received 175 votes and Schmitt received 128.
- The Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride award winners were Trent and Karen Linkin for their property at 111 E. Madison.
- Obituaries this week: Orva Horn, Vonda Long, Doris Miller, and Pauline Sadler.
- P. E. O. Chapter EV will meet at the home of Gwen Moore. Kay Miller will serve as hostess and Helen Bishop and Bonnie Baker will present the program.
2015
- Obituaries this week: Karl Fowler and Craig Alan Miller.
- Andrew Krieger of New London won $30,000 from the Iowa lottery.
- Citizens of Tomorrow include Lanie and Tyler Szewczyk; Liam Cullen Brumwell; Liam and Lincoln Garvey; and Noelle Denning.
- The Tiger football team defeated Columbus 28-14.
