1950
- Another local polio case is hospitalized. Jimmy Anderson, 18 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Anderson, has been taken to Mercy Hospital in Burlington.
- James Calloway left for Missoula, Montana where he will enter the University of Montana for his second year.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Yellow Cab Man” starring Red Skelton and Gloria DeHaven and “Keep ‘Em Flying” starring Abbott and Costello.
- A picture titled “The Boys Who Carry the Pigskin” featured several HS players only using last names. Included were Craig, Lee, Ritchey, Harper, McPheron, and Hester. Alas there are no first names.
- Mrs. J.H. Pierson who has spent the past two months with her sister, Mrs. Phil Westerbeck, left for her home in Arcadia, California.
- Delbert Guy Gabbert passed away on Sept. 25 at the hospital where he had been a patient for two months. He had been the secretary for the I.O.O.F. for the past 32 years. He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Margaret Helmerson and two grandchildren.
- On Sunday, Sept. 24, three cars driven by teenagers crashed on the Lowell Road. An NLHS freshman, Ruth Ann Kannegiesser, was the only one seriously injured with a broken vertebra. Kannegieser and Ben Flam were the only ones from New London. The other drivers were from Mt. Pleasant.

1975
- Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wick and family spent the weekend in St. Louis and attended some ball games.
- Clarence Reid and Jack Jones will run for the city council on Nov. 4.
- Rusty Sinclair, Brian Pence, Steve Barry, and Doug McCannon stopped by the Journal office riding Lady. She belongs to Ron Barron. From the picture, Lady is either a very large dog or a very small horse.
- Last week the Smiths had visitors in their Geode facilities. They were Joe Hafliger and Eddy Sibert from Zurich, Switzerland.
- The following people have houses for sale: Merle Steward, Jerry Hudson, Ivyal Landes, Bert Harper, Earl Martin, Dennis Dickey, Hattie Wise, and Bob Gray.
2000
- This week’s Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride award winners are Mike and Joyce Westerbeck for their home at 220 S Pine St.
- The Grand Marshall of the New London Fall Fest was Dr. Dale Brinlmeyer.
- Obituaries this week: Mary Amelia Jones, Jacob Wegmuller, and Barbara Raleigh.
- Lisa Ann Worden and Benjamin Joseph Bence will be married on Sept. 30 at St. John’s Catholic Church. Parents are Connie and Scott Housman, Lewis and Jacque Worden and William and Teresa Bence.
- David and Debra Kempker will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Sept. 24 from 2-5 p.m. They have three children: Eric, Angie, and Tony.

- Obituary this week: Betty J. Jennings.
- Citizens of Tomorrow: Brooklyn and Owen Curry; Charlie Wellington; and Emma, Madisyn, and Mayzie Szewczyk.
- The New London Country Club is celebrating its 100 year anniversary by honoring Tom Noel and Gary Hildebrand, both 50-year members.
