1950
- Dave Calloway, Lester Matheny, and Frank Van Syoc all had stock on the Chicago market Monday morning. After the sale, they returned home Monday evening on the Zephyr.
- Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Jeffery and son, Trenton, Mich., visited last week at the Kenneth Wiley home.
- Rebecca Clark is being cared for at the home of Mrs. Dale Williams.
- Mrs. Earl Petzinger visited the fourth grade Wednesday morning. Several boys and girls are beginning lessons on their band instruments.
- Homecoming committees have been appointed. Freshmen — decorating the gym and gathering firewood for the pep rally; Sophomores — selection of crowns and obtaining convertibles; Juniors — concessions; Seniors — Invitations.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Far Frontier” starring Roy Rogers and Trigger plus co-hit “In Old Missouri” starring the Weaver Brothers, and “Love That Brute” starring Paul Douglas and Jean Peters.
- George Blomgren Dewey will speak at the HS on his trip to Russia. He is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
- Mr. and Mrs. Linder Davey spent the weekend in Chicago where they met their new nephew, Timothy Donald son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCown. Mrs. McCown is the former Garnet LaVon Davey.
- The following ladies will be entertained at a 12:30 luncheon at the home of Mrs. Elmer Sutton in Burlington. They are Mary Harper, Margaret McKinnon, Dorothy Kilbourn, Ethel Piper, Gladys Reed, Lorene Ritchey, and Cleo Harper.
1975
- Three New London musicians will be included in Southeast Iowa Symphony this year. They are Maria Elliott-oboe, Lewis Worden-trombone, and Tracy Bell-flute.
- The Cabaret Club at Rome, operated by Ben Flam, was broken into some time Sunday night. It is under investigation.
- Carla Williamson is now employed as a dispatcher in the HC Sheriff’s office.
- Tigerettes take second in softball sectional. They lost to W-MU by a 9-4 score.
- Ronald Ritchey of Davenport was a recent visitor at the parental Howard Ritchey home.
2000
- Ralph and Maxine DeSpain are this week’s Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride Award winners for the improvements made to their 404 E. Main St. residence.
- Robert Cardoni, New London Superintendent of Schools, has been selected for the 2001 class of Leadership Iowa.
- The NL School Board is pictured. They are Kelly Kadel, Sid Schmitt, Rhonda Mixon, Virginia Ekstrand, and Laurie Hempen.

- Jordan and Christine Olsen, of New London are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Murphye Jenav Margareth Olsen to Andrew Robert Zane, son of John and Julianne Zane of Bonaparte.
- Chance Smith took some of his handiwork to Mr. White’s 4th grade sculpture class.
- The fall athletic teams, from grade school to high school, have their pictures in the paper. The freshmen boys would be seniors when the Tigers won the 8-player football state championship in 2018.
