1950
- Lieut. and Mrs. Jay Lessenger and family are here visiting Mrs. E. J. Lessenger, the former’s mother. He has been ordered to the west coast and possibly for Pacific service in the navy air corps intelligence department.
- Harold Miller, New London football standout, is helping bring honor to Parsons college at Fairfield, the only undefeated team in the state. He recovered a Simpson fumble and helped to defeat them 19 - 8. He is a junior at Parsons majoring in economics.
- The Journal saluted the McKinnon family’s 57 years in the petroleum business.
- William McKinnon purchased the Francis Weinrich residence in the SE part of town. Gordon Reese made the sale.
- Happy birthday to the following NLHS students: Benny Flam-Nov. 9; Larry Pennebaker-Nov. 16; Dale Miller-Nov. 24; and Sherry Piper-Nov. 30.
- Perfect spelling scores in the 2nd grade: Sharon Angstead, Sara Burkhart, Rita DeSpain, Dorothy Peterson, Mark Fitzpatrick, Ralph Johnson, and Jim Church.
- Mr. and Mrs. Don Bell and Michele left for Florida. Mrs. Bell and Michele will stay in Florida for the winter while Mr. Bell will return.
- This week at the Alamo: “Peggy” starring Diana Lynn and Charles Coburn and “Sierra” starring Audie Murphy and Burl Ives.
- New London township will vote Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Marshall Garage.
1975
- It was a low turn out for the election held on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Clarence Reid and Jack James got the biggest share of the 242 votes cast.
- “Here and Now” is the all-school play. It will be presented on Nov. 7 and 8 in the HS auditorium.
- Women’s Club will meet on Nov. 10 at the home of Mary Garrels. Devotions will be given by Edith Miller. Newsflash will be given by Oneida Mosbey.
- Mrs. Elsie Miller was elected Associate Grand Conductress at the Grand Session of Eastern Star last week in Davenport.
- Mr. and Mrs. Tom Larmore are moving to Ft. Madison, where they will operate the Christian Family Bookstore.
- Tamara Beth Morrow married Timothy Patrick Levins on Oct. 18.
2000
- First Team All-Conference in Volleyball: Utility-Brittony Williamson; Hitters-Corina Schropp, and Lyndsay Worden; Setter-Kara Rummelhart. Second Team All-Conference: Courtney Pilch. Honorable Mention: Jessica Rummelhart and Rylee Olsen. New London finishes at 6-0.
- The Senior Spotlight this week is on Lyndsay Rae Worden.
- Two new police officers join the New London force. They are Officers Weatherly and Hicks.
- George W. Bush carried Henry County over Al Gore 51.62% to 45.05%.
- Obituary this week: Barbara Ellen Gordon.
2015
- Ron Sadler was reelected as mayor. Kirk Miller and Tim Davis earn council seats.
- Enid Mortland will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house on Nov. 15.
- Tigers defeat Warhawks in regional volleyball final.
- The Journal office welcomed Grow ‘n’ Glow Trick or Treaters.
