•1200 people bought poppies to commemorate Memorial Day.
•The New London Cubs defeated the Mt. Pleasant Cubs 15-9 in a softball game. Andy Rogers pitched for NL, walking one and striking out 6.
•Ralph Miller is running for the Board of Supervisors.
•Elmer Leedham is running for State Representative.
•This week at the Alamo: “Green Dolphin Street” starring Lana Turner and Van Heflin and “Hit Parade of 1947” starring Eddie Albert and Constance Moore.
1973
•The Glove Factory is shut down due to a strike.
•The 6th grade campout featured riflery. Students participating were Tim Huddleston, Chuck Clark, Andy Vaughan, Shelly Schnicker, and Sheri Williams.
•Obituaries this week: Inez Davey, Lena Linder, and Walter C. Heater.
•Kevin Bailey underwent back surgery at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
1998
•Bob Hardy, Mike Westerbeck, and Troy Mears were unable to attend the monthly City Council meeting for various reasons. Bud Brown and Jan Crow had a work session.

•Rachel Chrisman and Heather Bowman are national award winners for the U.S. Achievement Academy.

•The Tiger Girls Golf team finished 5th as a team. Team members are Morgan Oliver, Emma Fry, Victoria Noel, Baylee Lindell, Jorgi Krieger, and Breanna Stevens.

•Marcus and Shawna McCabe welcomed a son, Cort Milo McCabe.
