1950
· Wanda Partridge of Chester, Illinois, formerly of Burlington, will marry William Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carol Reed, on Dec. 31 at the First Presbyterian church in Burlington.
· A miscellaneous shower was held in honor of Miss Janet Edwards at the home of Mrs. Howard Ritchey. She will marry Terry Kilbourn on Dec. 31. Mrs. Jack Harper and Mrs. Ronald Ritchey were co-hostesss.
· The boys basketball team beat Morning Sun at the buzzer. Bob Harper led all scorers with 22 points.
· Santa letters filled this week’s edition of the Journal. Dear Santa, Could you bring me a wild west outfit and Hopalong Cassidy’s boots and skis. Love, John Frederick Warth.
· At the Alamo this week: “Fancy Pants” starring Bob Hope and Lucille Ball.
1975
· Something rather unusual for the Christmas season … or any other season for that matter, is a cow’s head (pictured in the paper) on a light pole just southeast of Bud Brown’s residence on old Hiway 34. Is it another one of the recently reported cattle mutilations … no one knows. But the critter appears happy.
· Mrs. Nell Petzinger born Jan. 18, 1893 in New London has died. She married Melville Elliott. He died earlier. She had one brother, Earl Petzinger of New London.
· Mr. and Mrs. Allen Strawhacker, Jason and Gretchen, of Nashville, Tenn. arrived to spend the Christmas holidays at the parental Mason Strawhacker home.
· Meri Hanks, who teaches second grade at Solon, is spending Christmas vacation at the parental Clarence Hanks home.
· Kristen Alderson, 3-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Alderson, had surgery last Wednesday at Burlington Medical Center and is doing well.
· Jim Church, Lafayette, Ind., is spending Christmas week with his mother, Mrs. Virgil Church.
· Mr. and Mrs. Herman Prehm celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Jan. 4 with a family dinner at the Holiday Inn.
2000

· New London’s Ben Dentlinger (#20) attempts to stop Danville’s Mitch Martin from making a dunk. The Tigers lost to the Bears 46-61.
· Elvis impersonator Junior Talley, entertained the residents at the care center. They were rockin’ and rollin’ with the King!
· The obituary this week: Dolly Rosetta Brown.
· The West Burlington Falcons nipped the Tigers 56-60 at a home game this week. Jayden Flowers is pictured making a layup.
