1950
A.R. McDonald, who has been in the mortuary business for 14 years, announced that he will retire and close his funeral home. He has leased the first floor of the home to Mrs. Velma Bugg who will open a nursing home Jan. 1.
A birthday supper at the New London Hall was served by Mrs. Forrest Burkhart, Mrs. Art Warth, and Mrs. Ivan Burkhart. It was in honor of Ronald Burkhart’s 6th birthday and Billy Warth and Bobby Burkhart’s 10th birthdays. Present were 33 people.
Christmas dinner guests at the Westerbeck home were Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Willits, Karen Sue and Johnny and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McKinnon and Jeffrey, Duane Westerbeck, and Mr. and Mrs. Karl Byrum and Michael and Cherie.
This week’s “Meet Your Neighbor” are Mr. and Mrs. Dale Tucker and their son Dale.
On Jan. 1, 1889, Mr. and Mrs. George Britton were married in the home of the bride’s parents. They will celebrate 63 years of marriage on Jan. 1, 1951 with their children and grandchildren.
The new Masons are Robert Shipley, Francis Little, Kenneth Wiley, Wilbur Flam, Carl Eichler, Lester Matheny, Robert Helphrey, Virgil Linkin, Ralph Wiley, and Ralph Miller.
This week at the Alamo: “Summer Stock” starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly and “Please Believe Me” starring Deborah Kerr and Robert Walker.
Ms. Elmer Craig and Mrs. Harry Polluck entertained Friday evening at a personal shower for Elenore Davey at the Polluck home. There were 14 guests present.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Engelhard will join relatives for a family Christmas in Marceline, Missouri.
Mrs. Nell Petzinger Elliott, 82, died in Winchester, Kentucky. She was born in New London on Jan. 18, 1893. She is survived by sisters Mrs. James Bell and Mrs. Donald Rounds and one brother Earl Petzinger.
Tigers get their first win against Morning Sun 69-64. Tim Gholson had 18 and David Vaughan added 17. Gene Wilkerson and Brian Gibson each had 12.

Four vocal music students from NLH have been chosen to sing at the 3rd annual University of Iowa honors choir festival. They are Candy Kelly, Marilyn Eichler, Mark Pennebaker, and Tim Manard.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Abrisz entertained Mr. and Mrs. Tom McKinnon, Kari and Amber, at dinner.
Harry Huppenberger spent Christmas with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith.

Second-graders at Clark have donated items for their pen pals in Haiti.
2001 will be the International Year of Volunteers.
