1951
· After a lengthy article about a New London vs. Danville basketball game, the author of the article reached this thought: “We have reached no definite conclusion except that it is hard for each one of us to accept some of the blame and in the future be more tolerant, more considerate, and for the players to develop a desire to excel. Sports are all for fun and we should keep that in mind.” (Still true…). The final score was Danville 37, New London 22.
· Mother’s Club will meet Feb. 13 at the home of Mrs. Margaret Lu McKinnon.
· Ralph DeSpain is attending the 53rd annual convention of the Iowa Retail Hardware Association in Des Moines.
· Nine English students were informed by Mrs. Williams that their poems had been accepted for publication in the Annual Anthology of High School Poetry. Rose Dickey, a junior, received special attention for her poem. The three other junior poets are Ruth Marshall, Mary Lou Harris, and Jacque Harper.
· This week’s senior personality was Robert (Bob) Eugene Harper.
· Wm. Collins, Mr. and Mrs. James Collins, Eddie and David, spent Sunday in Salem at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McGuire.
· Orville Kilbourn, local merchant, was elected president of the New London Improvement Corp. He succeeds George Elliott. The corporation owns the glove factory building. Other officers were VP-J. O. Bell, Sec.-Don Bell, Treas.-Wes Corey, and directors-Bert Harper, Forrest Burkhart, E.R. Leedham, and George Elliott.
· This week at the Alamo: “Pretty Baby” starring Dennis Morgan and Betsy Drake and “Tripoli” starring Maureen O’Hara and John Payne.
1976
· Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Fulk received word that his sister and family returned to their Missouri home finding it ablaze. Sadly, they lost the house and their possessions.
· Chapter H, T. T. T. elected officers for the coming year. They are Helen Hanks — Pres.; Ramona Wiley — VP; Cor. Sec. — Faye Kermeen; and Treas. — Marie Walz.
· Katherine Marie Reid and Wayne D. Brumwell announce their engagement and approaching marriage on June 12.
· Solomon Dover’s daughter is still living. Lulu Bell Dover is age 104 and lives in Russell, Kansas.
· “A” Honor Roll — Joyce Crabil, Jolene Davey, Shiree Davey, Bob McPheron, and Cindy Voyles.
2001
· Rebecca Schweitzer, a NLHS student, will join a government conference in Washington DC.
· Obituaries this week: Kenneth Wiley and Rose Willamon.
· Senior Spotlight this week: Amanda Jo Souder.
· The varsity girls basketball team stomped Maharishi 77 to 22.
2016
· Obituaries this week: Lillian Mae Giese, Barbara Ann (Bohlen) Hanson, and Rachelle Moore.
· 6th grade boys basketball took home the silver in the Burlington tournament. The team included Jardin Mufaune, Torren Riley, Nick Johnson. Bowen Glaha, Devon Swanson, Alexander Julian, Cooper Schulte, Seth Bailey, Drew Benz, and Jordan Sharp.
· New London’s Paetyn Prottsman scores against Holy Trinity.
