1951
· Howard Ritchey, president of the Chamber of Commerce appointed the committees for the annual athletic banquet. Speaker and entertainment — Don Bell, Clair Bishop, and Forrest Burkhart. Dinner and tickets — Earl Petzinger, Mike Brackey, Jim Collins, Ralph DeSpain, Carl Eichler, Dr. Perry Haist, and the monthly serving committee.
· New London will host the boys sectional tournament here four nights next week. The first game is Danville vs. Mt. Union at 7:30 p.m. The second game will be between Sperry and Mediapolis. Games will continue on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
· The grades K through 12 collected $301.88 for the March of Dimes. Seventh grade collected the most at $10.07.
· This week’s senior personalities are Ronny Ritchey and Wendell Beattie.
· Thus week at the Alamo: “Let’s Dance” starring Betty Hutton and Fred Astaire and “A Lady Without a Passport” starring Hedy LaMarr and John Hodiak.
1975
· Mildred Burkhart was honored at the Tigerettes’ basketball game last night with a dozen roses and a scroll. She will serve as a “Basketball Hall of Famer” in upcoming tournaments.
· Sixty-five students from grades 5 — 8 participated in the SEIBA in Ft. Madison.
· This week’s Senior Interview was with Marilyn Eichler.
· Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Watson and Janet and Bobbi Jo Parks visited Mrs. Watson’s mother, Mrs. Henry Holscher, at Aledo, IL on Sunday.
· Jeffrey Earl Edwards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Edwards, was named to the Dean’s list at Coe College.
2001
· Ben Schmitt and Lyndsay Worden will play Sky Masterson and Miss Sarah in New London’s presentation of the musical “Guys and Dolls.”
· Obituaries this week: Richard Haist, Elmer Watson, and William Hamilton.
· Kylee Ann Lamm was born to Randy and Maggie Lamm of Iowa City on Feb. 20. Local grandparents are Kent and Sheila Lamm of New London.
· The Chamber of Commerce meeting on Feb. 20 brought forth many interested parties to brainstorm on the rebeautification of downtown New London.
2016
· Four additional sites have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They are all in Henry County.
· LaVelle. and Berdita Hibbs will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 20th.
· The 5th grade Tigers won the West Burlington basketball tournament. The team members are Rylan Martin, Mavi Pope, Carson Edwards, Weston and Wyatt Miller, A. J Bonneson, Jonathan Fortin, Evan Reed, Boden Pickle, Brody Wenger, and Blaise Porter. They were coached by Bryant Porter and Jesse Howard.
