• Marjorie Lemon, Moline IL, spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lemon.
• Dale Linder, operating under the firm name of Linder Co., has opened a new heating firm.
• Mrs. Phil Westerbeck will host the Garden Club on June 25.
• The VFW has announced the five girls that have been nominated for Victory Queen for the Independence Day celebration. They are Freda Ball, Eleanor Davey, Dolores Harper, Janet Edwards, and Virginia Hanson.
• Mr. and Mrs. John Rapien of Grand Island, Nebraska, have purchased the new Richard Cole home in the north part of town. They will take possession on July 15.
• This week at the Alamo: “Cass Timberlane” starring Spencer Tracy and Lana Turner and “Abie’s Irish Rose” starring Anne Nichols.
1973
• Dick Reid reports that the plans for the 10-year class reunion of the NLHS Class of 1963 are set for June 23.
• Obituaries this week: Lawrence Ball, Nancy Alice Davey, and Denver M. Williams.
• Geode Industries will attend the national show of Lapidary Equipment. Attending from New London are Ed Smith, Earl Smith, Steve and Dave Smith, Sam Blint, and Frank Staley.
• Mrs. Phil Riley will bake cakes for any occasion .

• The SEI Regional Planning Commission announced the selection of C.A. Williams to be the 1998 recipient of the Leland McCosh Memorial Award for outstanding public service.
• Violet Locke will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house hosted by her children.
• Clyde Earl and Gloria Horn will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 27.
• Joe and Koni Lounsbury welcomed their son, Grant Joseph, on June 19. He weighed 8 lbs. 14 0z.
• Obituaries this week: Opal M. Borton, Lucy Michael, Mary Dodds, and Myrtle Arlene Juntunen.
2013
• Hometown Pride award winner this week is the Ron and Claudia Coberley home.
• The New London softball team beat Columbus, 3-0. Pitcher Morgan Christner threw a no-hitter.
• The New London baseball team beat Notre Dame, 11-1. The winning pitcher was Quincy Porter.
• In Senior Lifestyles, James Fredrick Wilke was spotlighted. A 1954 graduate of NLHS, he would go on to host radio shows that highlighted his love of jazz. Classmates included Gary Blanck, Janice Elder Thornburg, Ruth Ann Kannegiesser Berkshire, Frank Hobbs, and Joann Thornton Mallams.
