1948
•P.E.O. elects officers: Pres. - Gertrude Elliott; VP - Fay Roudabush; Rec. Secy. - Thelma Synnes; Corr. Secy. - Marie Totemeier; Guard - Mary Jayne Williams; and Pianist - Helen Campbell.
•Mrs. Cartha Blythe will entertain the John See chapter of the DAR. Mrs. Ethel Miller will assist.
•Carl Garrels is here visiting his parents, the Ray Garrels.
•The Band Benefit Carnival will be March 12 at the NLHS gym. It will feature a Museum, Athletic Arena, Fun House, Side Show, Games of Skill, Manual Training Exhibit, Free Prizes, Door Prize, Eats, and Movies.
•Fred Ekstrand’s birthday was celebrated at the home of Milt McDonald. Present were Mrs. Kate Bandy, Doris and David Ekstrand, and the McDonalds.
•This week at the Alamo: Walt Disney’s “Fun and Fancy Free” starring Edgar Bergen and Dinah Shore and “Deep Valley” starring Ida Lupino and Dane Clark.
1973
•Winifred Pearl Kramer, 79 of Winfield, died March 11 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She is survived by one son, Beryl.
•Effective Jan. 1, Dallas Piper was promoted to a management position and will be Fleet Supervisor of Northern Iowa for UPS. Dallas and wife, the former Betty Grimm, and sons will be moving to the Cedar Falls area.
•Teresa Williams and Sharlene Broeker will represent New London Chapter of FHA at the Iowa Association’s Leadership Conference in Des Moines.
•Senior Interview this week: Kathy LeAnn Hanson.
•Mr. and Mrs. Rocky Shores arrived home for a few days. They are building a new home at Horse Shoe Bend, Ark. and will be moving there at a later date.
•Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Kannegiesser arrived home after a six-week vacation visiting friends and relatives in Texas, Arizona, and California while making a side trip to Mexico.
1998
•New London’s search for a Superintendent continues. Six candidates have been interviewed and one offered the job. Steve McAllister was offered the New London position, but declined the offer.
•Ray Francis has received the prestigious Ber Zander Award from the Iowa Water Well Association.
•Obituaries this week: Vivien R. Schach, Bettajane Pennebaker, and James “Toby” Davis.
•Senior Interviews this week: Laura Laakso, Max Lund, Steve Skillman, and Missy Wendel.
•Reggie Williamson was approved as a substitute bus driver for the school district.
•SEISC All-Conference Basketball: Boys/Honorable Mention - Jason Hack and Fean Wagner. Girls - 1st Team - Rachael Dingman/2nd Team - Susan Wick/HM - Corina Schropp and Julie Blow.
2013
•The New London Music Department will present “Oklahoma” on March 15 and 16 in the HS auditorium.
•Sam and Katie Reighard entertained for Lia’s 9th birthday at Kenny’s Roller Ranch.
•Bud Brown will be recognized for his donations and volunteerism at the Mississippi Regional Blood Center in Burlington.
