1948
•Next week the weather will approach and may reach 100 degrees. Just in time for the start of school.
•The football field will be getting new lights. The old lights were turned over to the VFW for installation on the baseball field.
•Mrs. J.E. Peterson, Ruth and Mary of Los Angeles, CA spent Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Ara Mehler.
•The teaching staff for 1948-1949: Roy Wise, Supt.; Emmett Barton, social science and boys’ athletics; Helen Pearson, commercial; Faye Kermeen, 7th grade; Joan Hasenclever, 5th grade; and Everette Hildebrand, 8th grade & HS Science. (The rest next week.
•This week at the Alamo: “Duel in the Sun” starring Gregory Peck and Jennifer Jones and “Wild Horse Mesa” starring Tim Holt and an extra “Dangerous Years.”
1973
•E.N. Smith, founder of Smith Insurance, was honored at a dinner by the Hartford Insurance Co. for 50 years of service.
•Jackie Parks, Marvin Keith, and Dennis Krieger appeared in court for various misdemeanors. They each paid small fines.
•School enrollment for this year is just under 700, nearly identical to last year.
•Deborah Denney, now Mrs. Richard Talley, was honored with a bridal shower on August 14.
1998
•The theme “Redbuds and Rumbleseats” was chosen for this year’s Fall Fest.
•Ginger Whyle and Jon Wenger announce their engagement and approaching marriage on September 19.
•NLCSD introduces new teachers: Teri Davis - kindergarten; Karen Doubleday - Music; Heather Sharp - math & science; Jennifer Stater - English; Heidi Hicks - Study Hall Supervisor; and Ben Bence - social studies.
2013
•NL Tiger FB coaches are Head Coach Brad Helmerson, Assts. Aaron Brown, Jon Brown, and Mark Chiri.
•Obituaries this week: Joy E. Ball and Lloyd E. Harris.
•Milo and Lucille McCabe have moved from 314 S Elm St. to 504 S Maple St.
•The Hometown Pride Award goes to Jim and Paula Turner Coates for their West Madison St. home.
