1948
•Sunday afternoon at Burge Cemetery, final rites will be held for 1st Lt. Wayne Ritchey, who was 26 years old when he was killed in action over Austria, May 10, 1944. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ritchey requested his body be returned from France to be buried at home.
•Obituaries this week: Loren R. Dickey and Mrs. Irene Robertson.
•Senior Class officers elected: Pres. - Wm. Willis; VP - Dick Pollock; Sec. - Jean Edwards; and Treas. - Janet Edwards.
•This week at the Alamo: “Gentleman’s Agreement” starring Gregory Peck and Dorothy McGuire and “Destry Rides Again” starring Marlene Dietrich and James Stewart.
1973
•Earl Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Blint left for Omaha to take Linda Smith to her new position. She will be working for Younkers.
•New London Days are the 14th & 15th. They will feature a parade, bingo, and rides.
•Mr. and Mrs. Greg Bontrager have returned to their home in Lexington, Ky. after a two week vacation visiting their parents, Mrs. Helen Bishop and the R. J. Bontragers.
•Dr. Vaughan and Robert Wright are running for seats on the school board.
1998
•Obituaries this week: Miriam Pobanz and Elizabeth Foggy Houghton.
•Andrew Gates has been granted the Resident Scholar Award from UNI. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Gates of New London.
•MS football has 63 players out.
•Cleo Carter won $50 for only missing two games in the Journal’s Football Contest.
2013
•Lindsay Porter received 372 votes and Shane Mettler received 389 to be elected to the school board. This is Porter’s second term and Mettler’s first.
•The Hometown Pride Award went to Don and Karen Johnson’s home on East Main Street.
•Obituaries this week: Merle R. Steward, Kristine M. Price, and Paul K. Woodsmall.
