1948
•Mr. and Mrs. Sam Summers announce the marriage of their daughter, Doris, to Mr. Miles Garrels, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Garrels. They will be married on Easter Sunday.
•At the New London School Board’s organizational meeting, Willis Hanks was elected president, and Dave Marshall was elected vice president. Dr. F.R. Mehler and Earl Petzinger were given the oath of office.
•John Strothman was seven years old March 11 and treated his class to candy suckers.
•Mrs. Ruth Kannegiesser visited the sixth grade class during social studies class. She was especially interested in their study of Germany because the Kannegiessers had toured there before World War II.
•This week at the Alamo: “Springtime in the Sierras” starring Roy Rogers and Trigger and “Song of the Thin Man” starring William Powell and Myrna Loy.
1973
•The Tourist and Travel group met. The group members were Bill Dameron, C. L, Jennings, Forrest Burkhart, Ralph Eckey, Duane Griggs, Earl Smith, Ed Smith, Sam Blint, Virgil Engelhard, and Bob Shores.
•Senior Interview this week: Gale Riley.
•Vickie Lynn Mueller and Ronald Eugene Oge were married March 10.
•The building that houses the hardware store and the bakery is for sale. It is on Main Street.
•Mrs. Helen Mae Funk, 56, died March 19 at the Burlington Hospital. She is survived by son Robert and daughter Mrs. Roger Lee.
1998
•Linda Niggemeyer passed away due to diabetes complications. The Lions Club and the community has lost a tireless volunteer who gave her time to help others.

•Senior Interviews this week: Scott Kracht, Megan Landes, Eric Loving, and Angie McCabe.
•Winners in the Tri-Area Reading Council creative writing contest were Courtney Holtkamp — 3rd grade and Johnny Siegel — 2nd grade.
•New London has hired Dan Bell as the new Head Track Coach.

•Aunt Eller, played by Ashlynn Brown, will be in “Oklahoma” on the New London stage this weekend,

•Wayne and Jeri Lyles have returned from a week in Wilmington and Carolina Beach, North Carolina.
