1948
•A group of 12 enjoyed a surprise dinner in honor of the Dave Marshalls’ 27th wedding anniversary.
•Dean J. Gipple, Winfield, bought the Coffee Shop from Billy Wellington and will take possession in November,
•Friday, October 1, the Tigers will take on Columbus Junction. Adults 50c/Students 25c.
•Playing at the Alamo this week: “Silver River” starring Errol Flynn and Ann Sheridan and “Three Daring Daughters” starring Jeanette McDonald.
•C. B. Noel left for Des Moines where he will enter the Veterans’ Hospital for an operation on his leg. This will be the 11th operation since he was wounded by gunfire in a battle in France on July 10, 1944.
1973
•Three candidates are running for Mayor: Betty Walker, Orville Kilbourn, and Bud Brown. Nine are running for Council: Clarence Reid, Larry Miller, Dale Blint, Garrett Kannegiesser, Carl Loyd, Tom Ritchey, Jack James, Anthony Thomas, and Mike Westerbeck.
•When asked what he was looking forward to his Junior year, John Alden said his Senior year.
•Lyle A. Clark will earn his master degree from Bemidji State College.
1998
•The NLHS Homecoming Court was selected. They are Becky Simmons, Stephanie Van Syoc, Tristan Curry, Rachael Dingman, Anna McCall, Nathan Henderson, Matt Fitzpatrick, Fean Wagner, Jared Burden, and Jason Boyd.
•Obituaries this week: Ronald Corbisier, Elsie Purdy. and Roy Breuer.
•Jamie Jo McBeth and Dominick Darrin Loyd are engaged and planning an October 31st wedding.
•The Lady Tigers stomped the Notre Dame Nikes 15-0, 15-3, and 15-1.
2013
•The NLHS Homecoming Court was selected. They are Tyler Shinkle, Kyle Oliver, Braden Gerst, Matayo Christianer, Cody Bartels, Breanna Stevens, Janice Sinclair, Mahala Jewett, Sarah Holtkamp, and Ashley Davey.
•This week’s “Hometown Pride” Award goes to the home of Chuck and Connie Mears on East Cleveland Street.
•The Tigers football team loses to Van Buren 6 - 40.
