- Obituaries this week: Milton Thomas DeSpain and Mrs. Mary Reed.
- Mrs. Paul Schenk, in the first farm accident of the season, lost her left arm below the elbow after it became caught in a corn dump.
- Mr. and Mrs. Earl Petzinger returned from a vacation on the west coast and the southwest.
- University High will be in town on Oct. 29 to take on the Tigers. Both teams are 3-3.
- The Farmers State Bank will close all day on Tuesday, Nov. 2 … Election Day.
- This week at the Alamo: “I Remember Mama” starring Irene Dunne and George Stevens and “Angel and the Badman” starring John Wayne and Gail Russell.
1973
- Terry Septer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Septer has enlisted in the Navy. He will be stationed in San Diego, CA.
- Homecoming candidates are Phil Byrum, Cheryl Craig, Jo James, Terry Leitch, Sherry Kerr, Joe Prottsman, Jeri Schroder, Mike Stodgell, Teresa Williams, and Ron Walker.
- The Volner TV repair shop in New London was gutted by fire Sunday morning. It is believed to have started from a defective heater.

- Obituary this week: Erin Elizabeth Blanco.
- Gavin Eugene Aanes was born Oct. 25 to Lisa Aanes and Scott Aanes. Local grandparents are Steve and Sue Aanes.
- Tigers beat longtime rival Danville, 15-5, 15-5, 15-6. Rachael Dingman led the team with 15 kills.
- The football Tigers rolled past West Burlington, 34-19.

- Obituary this week: Marilyn Riepe Prins.
- Addison Rose Kracht was born to Scott and Becky Kracht. She weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz.
- Gerald and Mickey Dingman recently visited their daughter and family, Lacey and Tim Woodsmall and Lillian Jeanne and Leo Jase, in Washington DC.
