•Byron Miller lost his arm and leg in a corn picking accident.
•Roger Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Patterson, enlisted in the Marines in Des Moines and has left for San Diego, CA.
•Mrs. Wesley Peterson gave her children, Dorothy and Jimmy, a costume Halloween party. Frank Hanson won 1st prize for his costume.
•This week at the Alamo: ”Green Grass of Wyoming” starring Charles Coburn and “T-Men” starring Dennis O’Keefe.
1973
•The annual Dad’s Night football game has been expanded to include mothers. Parents’ Night will be Nov. 2 when the Tigers take on Morning Sun.
•Opinions around town are that the upcoming election will have a sizable turnout.
•The Volner TV Repair Shop was gutted by fire on Sunday. The Oddfellows Hall upstairs received extensive smoke damage and Walz ‘s Plumbing received light smoke damage.
•Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Dickey celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Jim, Dennis, and Mike took them out to eat at the Suburban Club,

•Obituaries for the week: Dorothy Heckenberg, James Collins, Martha Breuer-Prehm, and Dorothy Earnest.
•New London Community School has just offered something new to the community, a new communication system that will connect New London to the world.
•The football team and the volleyball notched two wins this week over the West Burlington Falcons.

•Cynde Lemley, Worthy Grand Matron, presided over the 136th session of the Grand Chapter of Iowa, Order of Eastern Star.
•The top vote-getters in Tuesday’s election were Dan Berner, Greg Malott, and Frank Staley.
•Obituaries this week: Joseph Custer and M. Joan Wolfe.
•Sammy Koontz is pictured serving against WACO. The Tigers defeated WACO and will face Calamus-Wheatland next.
