1948
•The veterans of the local post of the VFW and the American Legion have collected $1,000 (over $12,000 in today’s money) so far for Byron Miller, a World War II vet, who was seriously injured in a farm accident.
•Earl Drewer, veteran city marshal and street commissioner, announced his resignation after serving 18 years in the same capacity.
•Mr. and Mrs. John Lundin celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on November 5th. They were married in Sweden in1898 and came to the United States seven years later.
•This week at the Alamo: “On the Old Spanish Trail” starring Roy Rogers and Trigger and “The Enchanted Valley” starring Alan Curtis.
1973
•Mervin Raines will head the Chamber next year.
•Orville Kilbourn’s write-in campaign for Mayor won the seat for him. He received 367 votes.
•The Tigers slaughtered Morning Sun 51-0. The leading scorer was Terry Leitch with three TDs.
•Forrest Burkhart received The Man of the Year Award from the Chamber of Commerce.
1998
•A quarter of a million dollar renovation project is underway at the New London Nursing & Rehab Center.
•NLHS was well-represented at the Iowa HS Rodeo Assoc. Marcus McCabe and Derin Blow competed.
•Citizen of Tomorrow pictured Amber Raines, granddaughter of Connie and Darrell Tarrence.
2013
•Obituaries this week: Edna Walker, Alice F. Coleman, Vironda Baker, and Christie Scherer.
•New teachers at New London: Ms. Leytem, Ms. Kruse, Mr. Hainey, Mr. Byrne, Mr. Garvey, and Ms. Huntington.
•Junior High football goes undefeated. They beat Danville, WACO, Winfield, Van Buren, and Cardinal. (The 7th graders were seniors the year the Tigers were State Champions.)
